Multi-celled?

Are most tintinnids unicellular?

A tintinnid is a protist, which are by definition single celled organisms. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.123.248.137 (talk) 11:30, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - see for example http://www.divediscover.whoi.edu/expedition10/daily/critter/tintinnid.html (although that only claims that "most are unicellular", presumably meaning some are colonial). Looks like someone has misunderstood what eukaryote means; I've changed it to "complex-celled". What I was actually looking for was confirmation or refutation of my friend's claim that the name is derived from "looking like Tintin", but it seems I won't find that here :)

I inserted the Latin source, referring to a small, tinkling bell.Wetman (talk)
