Tatum is a town in
Geography
Tatum is located in northern Lea County. U.S. Route 380 passes through the town, leading west 72 miles (116 km) to Roswell and east 30 miles (48 km) to Plains, Texas. New Mexico State Road 206 crosses US 380 in the center of Tatum, leading north 65 miles (105 km) to Portales and south 22 miles (35 km) to Lovington, the Lea county seat.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Tatum has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km2), of which 0.01 square miles (0.02 km2), or 0.47%, are water.[5]

The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.1% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $28,833, and the median income for a family was $33,393. Males had a median income of $31,111 versus $19,750 for females. The

Tatum Airport is a town-owned, public-use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) east of the central business district of Tatum.[10]
