This is a route-map template for the Loop, a rapid transit line in Chicago.

This map depicts operating conditions from 1931 to 1949.

The platforms on Van Buren were lengthened to the point that they became continuous although trains still stopped at each station individually.

Trains from the North and South Sides operated on the Outer Loop track while trains from the West Side circled the Loop on the Inner Loop track.

Metropolitan Division trains (Logan Square,

Lake Street
trains entered and exited from the northwest corner.

Through-routed
services from the North and South Sides traveled through the Loop using two sides per direction. Southbound trains operated south on Wells and then east on Van Buren while northbound trains operated north on Wabash and west on Lake. North and South Side services that were not through-routed circled the Loop before returning to their points of origin.

The North Shore Line, which also used the Loop, passed through in the same manner as through-routed services.
