Duplicate IDs

This template contains <span id="coordinates" class="metadata coord-missing">. Although the misleading "coord-missing" could be justified, no webpage should contain elements with duplicate ids. The span needs a different identifier if we want to be able to use this template at the same time as {{Coord missing}}. Does any external tool expect this template to have id="coordinates"? --RexxS (talk) 19:23, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that that and more was left over when this template was copied and adapted from {{Coord missing}}. I've removed them. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:44, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template broken?

This template doesn't seem to display anything on the page it's included on. Is it broken? Thisisnotatest (talk) 04:37, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, the purpose of the template is not to display anything on the article page, but just to place the article in a (hidden) category. That allows editors to see a list of all the relevant articles by looking at the category page.
For reference, the categories can be:
where 'XYZ' is a subject area. Hope that helps, --RexxS (talk) 03:28, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. That's odd. I would think that the person most likely to be able to correct the issue would be someone who specifically had expertise in the topic. Also, being able to see visibly on the page that the page had that issue would mean that I wouldn't have to go looking to see whether a page missing alt text already had the tag because it would be out in front.
I suppose if the tag is obvious, it could become a target for removal. Similarly, I would think the search for alt-text-less pages could be automated (perhaps it has been--it looks like there's code on the template page for an automatic search).
But anyway, now I know.
