Kansas City Chiefs

Smith was drafted by the

kick returner) during his rookie season, but also saw some playing time on defense as a cornerback. During the 2018 season, he had 33 returns for 886 yards, averaging 26.8 yards per return.[6] He was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team as a returner.[7]

Prior to the 2019 season, the Chiefs moved Smith from cornerback to running back;[8] after the preseason, however, he was moved back to cornerback.

Smith was waived by the Chiefs on September 14, 2019.[9]

Green Bay Packers

Smith was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers on September 17, 2019.[10] He was waived on October 14 and re-signed to the practice squad two days later.[11][12] He was promoted to the active roster on October 29.[13] On December 2, 2019, Smith was waived by the Packers.[14]

Philadelphia Eagles

On December 4, 2019, Smith was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad.[15] He signed a reserve/future contract with the Eagles on January 6, 2020.[16] He was waived on July 26, 2020.[17]

Indianapolis Colts

On August 16, 2020, Smith signed with the Indianapolis Colts.[18] He was waived on September 5, 2020,[19] and re-signed to the team's practice squad the next day.[20] He was promoted to the active roster on September 22, 2020.[21]

Houston Texans

Smith signed with the

intercepted the Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott twice marking the first and second of his career.[25]

Denver Broncos

On March 17, 2023, the Denver Broncos signed Smith to a two-year contract.[26]
