Secrets of Mayan Science/Religion

This text, published in 1990, uses symbols from ancient

Kukulcan. After chapter five, "Hunab K'u Gave Us the Seven Powers", Hunbatz Men provides the reader with two prayers to direct towards Hunab K'u
. The first prayer is designated to daytime while the second towards nighttime.

Ancient Maya Beliefs

Hunbatz Men first gives the reader insight into his understanding of ancient Maya beliefs. He describes their understanding of the soul and spirit and how it came from an understanding of the environment. Hunbatz Men says the Maya thought everything had a soul and is a "manifested form of the spirit." [2] Hunbatz Men says after one dies the soul will stay on Earth while the spirit "reintegrates with the great cosmic focus which is the sun."[3]

According to Hunbatz Men, the ancient Maya believed Hunab K'u was the Absolute Being and was understood to be the "measure of the soul" and the "movement of the spirit."[2] Hunbatz Men emphasizes the importance of Hunab K'u in ancient Maya belief by indicating his connection to the sun and how the Maya believed the sun controlled all kinds of life [4]

Another important aspect of ancient Maya way of thinking, the author brings up, includes a lack of individualism. Hunbatz Men suggests the Maya did not think of each person being separate from another person. He believes the Maya thought of everyone as a part of the "same entity."[5] He goes on to say the ancient Maya thought lords, humans, and numbers were also not separate and all relied upon Hunab K'u. The author gives proof for this idea by suggesting the symbol of a square inside of a circle, located on pyramids built by the Maya, stands for the belief in oneness[6]

Origin of the Letter "G"

Before giving evidence for "G" originating in an ancient Maya context, the author asks the reader if it is likely Mayan was the language other languages rose from. He suggests the scenario of Mayan influence by discussing the resemblances in Mayan syntax to Saxon syntax. Hunbatz Men also points out the English sound "sh" and Mayan "ch" sound alike. [7]

Hunbatz Men then talks about how "G", also known to the Maya as zero, can be recognized as symbols on ancient Maya artwork. This includes a mask from Teotihuacan which can be found in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico. According to the author, the swirl-like designs on the sides of the mask's nose represent the "sacred symbol "G". Hunbatz Men expresses concern that guides at the museum only describe the symbols as decoration. [8]

Besides zero, the author suggests "G" was used to represent the Milky Way, which he believes the ancient Maya worshipped.[9] Hunbatz Men says symbols of this representation can be found at the pyramids of Uxmal, Yucatan, Mexico and Milta in Oaxaca, Mexico.[10]

Origin of the Letter "T"

The 8 Calenders of the Maya:The Pleiadian Cycle and the Key to Destiny

In this text, Hunbatz Men discusses how Maya ancestors used many calendars to follow organizations in the cosmos. This is discussed more in depth through the explanation of the Tzek'eb calendar.

Antiquity of the Maya

In the chapter titled "Mayan Roots in Antiquity," Hunbatz Men describes the unlikely origins of the Maya, the possible origins of the Maya, thoughts on the origin of human beings, as well as evidence for the antiquity of ancient Maya.

Hunbatz Men questions the idea that his ancestors came to America through the Bering straight.[11] He also criticizes Czech anthropologist Aleš Hrdlička for suggesting East Asia colonized America 15,000 years ago.[12] Hunbatz Men brings up the possibility that humans came from the southern part of South America. Evidence for this includes a find by Florentino and Carlos Ameghino in the late 1800's. The brothers believe they found ancient human remains in Argentina and think they could be proof of the first humans.[12]

Ancient Maya Human Origin Beliefs

The author then discusses his understanding of ancient Mayas' beliefs on the origins of humans. Hunbatz Men says ancient Maya thought suggested their ancestors came from space. The ancestors "intermingled with the highest form of life on Earth, to bring about the human being." [13] Hunbatz Men goes on to say the belief in a space origin is the reason temples, belonging to Maya, Aztec and Inca, were positioned to align with the Pleiades. Next a connection is made to the number 7 and the Pleiades, which Hunbatz Men describes as a cosmic basis of consciousness. The author says the number 7 signifies the "seven inner chakras of the human being" and the seven stars of Pleiades. [14]

Lemuria and Atlantis

As for the origin of ancient Maya, Hunbatz Men looks to Atlantis and Lemuria. He says the Itzae, or "ancestors of tradition", remember living on Atlantis. [15] Hunbatz Men refers to James Churchward as evidence for his claim. The author says according to Churchward, Lemuria was the source of civilization and from there colonized America and then Atlantis. [11] Hunbatz Men claims ancient Maya practiced a "cosmic religion" on Lemuria. [15] In Atlantis, he describes religious symbols coming from a "cosmic wisdom". [15] These symbols were included in a "universal wisdom" which contributed to ancient Maya education on Atlantis. [15] At a certain point, Hunbatz Men believes the "cosmic wisdom", of ancient Maya on Atlantis, showed them through their calendars that a cycle was ending and as a result moved out of Atlantis.
