On November 16, 2006, Ambiappan married P. Keerthy Iyengar (Parthasarathy Keerthy Iyengar) in a traditional Tamil Brahmin ceremony. He has three children, Venkat Swaminathan Iyer (born 2008), Kavitha Venkatachalapathy Iyer (born 2011), and Aarthi Parthasarathy Iyer (born 2013).
