Accent discrimination, also called accentism, is unequal treatment of people based on their accent while speaking a certain language. It is frequently used to describe workplace discrimination against those with accents.

In England, accentism is often targeted at people who speak English with a Northern accent. According to studies conducted by researchers at Northumbria University, as of 2022, English people hold implict biases toward those with Northern accents and generally consider them to be less intelligent, less educated, and less ambitious than people with Southern accents.[1]
