In England, accentism is often targeted at people who speak English with a Northern accent. According to studies conducted by researchers at Northumbria University, as of 2022^[update], English people hold implict biases toward those with Northern accents and generally consider them to be less intelligent, less educated, and less ambitious than people with Southern accents.^[1]
