This is a list of the Chiefs of Naval Operations in order of longevity. There are currently thirty Chiefs on the list and ten living Chiefs. The list is in descending order and is correct as of June 3, 2024. The oldest Chief is Robert Carney (1895 - 1990), who died at the age of 95 years, 91 days. The oldest living Chief is James L. Holloway. He is currently 102 years, 101 days old and has held the title of oldest living Chief since February 5, 2004.

To account for the different number of

within the life of each Chief, two measures of longevity are given. The first is the number of whole years the Chief lived, and the number of days past their last birthday. The second lists the total number of days lived by the Chief.
