Here's a quick link to my list of contributions.

A Brief Introduction

  • I used to have a different Wikipedia username, but I abandoned it in 2009. I was not sure I was comfortable with all of my edits being tied together.
  • Over the next several years, I sporadically edited from various IP addresses without logging in, when I saw a compelling need.
    • Pro: Edits were semi-anonymous, because they came from different IP addresses not associated with each other.
    • Con: It was both too anonymous, making it hard to participate in discussions if necessary, but also not anonymous enough, because it gave away information about what network/location I was editing from.
  • Now, it's 2017, and I have decided to formally rejoin the user community. I am not linking or connecting to my previous username in any way, because that was a long time ago and I made a lot of edits. I don't want to have to go back and make sure they all reflect well on who I am today.
  • Since I am starting this account about eight years (apparently!) since my last logged-in edit on my old account, and since I am terrible with creating usernames that aren't just some version of my real name, I am naming this account EightYearBreak.

I probably will not be as prolific an editor as I once was, but as always, I welcome any thoughts or questions about my edits, either on the Talk page here or on the article itself.

A Note on "Clean Start"

According to

WP:CLEANSTART
, "A clean or fresh start is when a user stops using an old account in order to start afresh with a new account. ... Any user in good standing who has no unexpired sanctions, and who is not being or about to be formally discussed for their conduct, may have a clean start."

For the avoidance of doubt, my old account (which has been unused for eight years) does not have any unexpired sanctions, and was never to my knowledge subject to any questions about my conduct. I'm just starting over for the reasons I've outlined above. --EightYearBreak (talk) 15:22, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
