About Me

I appreciate you taking the time to view my user page. I'm a hardworking high school student who's currently taking college courses, which are helping me towards my goal of earning an Associates Degree next year. I plan on progressing from community college to a university once I graduate in order to pursue a career in psychiatric nursing. Some interests and hobbies of mine that exist outside of school include training for and playing volleyball, as well as spending time with friends and family. Studies show that spending time with family is a great way to strengthen emotional bonds and greatly improve communication between members. ^[1] Although this does relate to my school work, I do love to study medicine in my own time as one of my many hobbies.

My Wikipedia Interests

Although I have not been a part of the Wikipedia community for long, I am fairly familiar with its uses and functions. As a Wikipedia volunteer, I hope to learn how to recognize false or improperly phrased information. Along with these recognition skills, I am hoping to also learn how to properly edit, and eventually create, pages within this website. Lastly, I am going to work towards building upon my skills of recognizing and editing biased information.

Article Evaluation

Camano Island happens to be, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I am fortunate enough to have experienced its beauty, and this has created a great interest in the many areas of the island for me. One of these areas is the Utsalady community. I was disappointed to find that when searched on Wikipedia, this article was lacking in three essential pieces, which include absence of important information, a lack of resources, and presence of invalid resource links.

Lack of Information

I came across the problem of absence of important information within this article. The information present was informative, but the article was extremely brief in its explanations, and the information provided was also only about Utsalady’s early history with no new, current, or up to date information. If a Wikipedia editor were to add to this page today, they could include a variety of new information, such as data about the geography, number of homes, and population.

Lack of Resources

Having viewed the resources to see what was available, I found that this brief article contained a very limited number of resources. Not only were there only four of them, but each of those four resources were accessed in late 2009. Since it is currently 2021, an update and extension of resource numbers would be extremely helpful in solidifying the credibility of this article.

Presence of Invalid Resource Links

The last problem that I encountered was that two of the four resource links were unable to function, or were invalid. When I attempted to visit the webpage linked to the Utsalady Ladies Aid, my browser continually reloaded, and never brought me to the page. This led me to assume it was no longer functioning. Along with the Ladies Aid link, the final link to a website on the old Camanio Lodge was altogether invalid and non-functioning, giving me a warning that the page was “403 Forbidden”. The absence of valid links unfortunately leaves the provided information invalid until new resources are found.

Summary

Overall, this page was not very informative, and from what I understand, not very valid either. It’s extremely difficult to assess the credibility of some of the information provided, and it’s also difficult to learn more about the Utsalady area when none of the information is current. An update in resources and information would be a great way to improve the overall quality of this article.
