A biot, is a portmanteau of "biological robot" and was originally coined by
cyborgs
who are a combination of mechanical parts and organic tissues, whether synthetically created or not.
In fiction, the robots featured in
replicants in the film Blade Runner
would be considered biots in nature: organisms of living tissue and cells created artificially. Instead of microchips, their brain is based on ganglions/artificial neurons.
The authors of the Star Wars book series
Yuuzhan Vong
uses the term to designate their biotechnology[1].
