Evaluate an article

This is where you will complete your article evaluation. Please use the template below to evaluate your selected article.

  • Name of article: cell biology
  • Briefly describe why you have chosen this article to evaluate: I chose this article to evaluate because I find cell biology to be interesting and I believe it is an important area of study.

Lead

Guiding questions:

  • Does the Lead include an introductory sentence that concisely and clearly describes the article's topic?
  • Does the Lead include a brief description of the article's major sections?
  • Does the Lead include information that is not present in the article?
  • Is the Lead concise or is it overly detailed?

Lead evaluation

The first sentence of the article defines the topic allowing the reader to understand the overall subject. The lead includes a brief description of the type of information the topic of cell biology encompasses, however, I believe it could include a little more information on some of the major sections that are discussed later on in the article. Everything in the lead is mentioned somewhere in the article and everything is concise and to the point, however, additional information could be added.

Content

Guiding questions:

  • Is the article's content relevant to the topic?
  • Is the content up-to-date?

  • Are there any claims that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
  • Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?
  • Does the article attempt to persuade the reader in favor of one position or away from another?

Tone and balance evaluation

Overall, the tone of the article is neutral and does not sound biased. The article includes facts and looks at everything from all the perspectives, however there are a few sentences that may include opinions rather than facts.

Sources and References

Guiding questions:

  • Are all facts in the article backed up by a reliable secondary source of information?
  • Are the sources thorough - i.e. Do they reflect the available literature on the topic?
  • Are the sources current?
  • Check a few links. Do they work?

Sources and references evaluation

Some of the facts in the article are missing sources and should be added. Also, within each section, the same source is used multiple times, so to avoid bias, it is better to gather information about that specific sub-topic from multiple sources and then cite them all. Additional sources that are reliable and more closely related to the topic could be used. Some of the sources are old but quite a few of them are recent. The links can be opened.

  • Are images well-captioned?
  • Do all images adhere to Wikipedia's copyright regulations?
  • Are the images laid out in a visually appealing way?

Images and media evaluation

The article contains two images. One of a cell biologist and another of the simple cell structure. The cell structure image increase understanding of the topic, however, the one of the cell biologist does not enhance the understanding. The caption could include a little more detail to explain specifically what is seen in the images. The images do adhere to the copyright regulations and are set in the article in an appealing and organized way.

This class is rated as a C class and level 4 vital article. It is a part of the Wikiproject Molecular and Cell Biology. Some of the conversation includes what topics may be included or encompassed by the term cell biology and people have provided links to lectures they believe would enhance ones understanding of the topic.
