I am a new user to Wikipedia, so please, bear with me. I am a graduate student at the University of Illinois pursuing a masters degree in library and information science. I am interested in programs that help bridge the digital divide and am fascinated by some of the creative projects being implemented on the African continent to help empower individuals through information access.

My undergraduate degree is in art history and I have a minor in photography which brings me to my interest in this wikipedia project. I am currently enrolled in Museum Informatics, a course that considers the intersection of human behavior and technology. This class explores the use of technology in the museum environment. I have decided to learn how to use Wikipedia for a class assignment in which I am to learn a new technology. I am focusing my efforts on the WikiProject Public art which according to Wikipedia's description is a project that "aims to encourage the creation of accurate, informative, and up-to-date articles about public art. The definition of public art is often debated, however this WikiProject focuses on art intended for public display." I have been reading the tutorials and watching the videos about how to get started using this wiki, how to become a member, and how to set up a user page. So far, so good. I have signed up to be a member of the project and hope to make a valuable or at least somewhat useful contribution.
