Kang Yoo-chan (born December 31, 1997), also known as Chan, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, composer, and actor. He debuted as a member of South Korean band A.C.E in May 23, 2017. He is the main vocal and the youngest of the group.

In October 2017, He with his fellow A.C.E member, Jun, joined survival program The Unit, which he finished in ninth place and became a member of the project group UNB as main vocal.

Personal life

Chan was born in Jeju Island, South Korea, on December 31, 1997. He has two older brother (CACTUS album Thanks to). He said that he became a singer because his parent ran a record store. He was a soccer player from elementary school to junior high school. After entering high school, he enrolled in a dance club.[1]

Career

Pre-debut

Chan was part of dance team called Alive87, specialized in popping dance. Chan was a JYP Entertainment trainee alongside Kim Byeongkwan for about 6 month before joining his current agency.[1][2] Chan appeared in Twice’s Like Ooh Ahh MV, as a zombie with Stray Kids’ Chan.

2017-2018: Debut with A.C.E and The Unit

On 23 May 2017, A.C.E released their debut single album

Callin' and special single titled "5TAR (Incompletion)" on March 15, 2018.[5][6]

On October 28, 2017, Chan and Jun joined survival program The Unit and passed with 4 boots.[7]

2018-2019: Re-debut with UNB

On February 24, 2018 broadcast of The Unit's Special Show, the final nine male contestants that formed "Uni+ B" became UNB following the announcement.[8] Chan made it to the final Top 9 and was voted number 9. UNB debuted on April 7, 2018 until January 27, 2019.[9]

On April 7, UNB officially made their debut with their extended play titled Boyhood with double title tracks, "Feeling" and "Only One". They held their debut stage on You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook.[10] On April 15, Chan with his fellow UNB member Feeldog and Kijung made appearance on Gag Concert.[11]

On May 12, Chan made a special appearance on Marrry Me Now episode 17 and 18.[12]

On June 28, the EP Black Heart was released, along with the music video of the lead track with the same name.[13] He participated in the lyrics and composition of the 3rd track "Moonlight" for the first time.[14]

On August 3, Chan was a special DJ at Casper Radio on Casper Music TV.[15]

UNB won two award including New Star Award (Singer) on Asia Model Awards and Music Star Award on Soribada Best K-Music Awards.[16]

UNB held their final concert "UNB JAPAN FINAL CONCERT~ THANKS UNME~" in Osaka, Japan on January 25, 2019 and Tokyo, Japan on January 27, 2019.[17] UNB ended their activities on January 27, 2019.[18]

2019-present: A.C.E and Acting Roles

On March 18, 2019 Chan joined the cast of Playlist's new web drama Twenty-Twenty. Chan’s character is an aspiring rapper named Son Bo Hyun.[19][20] Before Twenty-Twenty premiere on August 22, Chan made special appearance on other Playlist's web drama Pop Out Boy!.[21][22]
