Chan Ji Kim composes for dance, chamber ensembles, orchestra, multimedia performances and electroacoustic music. Recently, her trio piece, In Memoriam which was dedicated to Dr. Dinu Ghezzo was premiered at the Symphony Space in New York City. Her trio piece, 9 years was premiered in Seville, Spain, performed by Trio Bartók, and her multimedia piece, Ta!Raindrops was performed at the Música Nueva Málaga Internacional concert in Malaga, Spain in 2009. Her contemporary ballet in six scenes, The Lotus Flower was premiered in Florida, her chamber ensemble piece, White Flowers was premiered at the Symphony Space in New York City, and The Lotus Flower for Orchestra was premiered by New York University Orchestra. Her piece, Butterfly for flute and tape was performed at the ISCM World Music Days in Timisuara, Romania, in 1999. She was commissioned by NYU Dance Department where she composed a work for the Millennium 2000 Concert. Her chamber piece and multimedia piece were performed at the International Summer Music Festival in Florence and Assisi, Italy in 2000, 2001 and 2002, and Internatioanl New Music Consortium (INMC) 2003 concert series in Romania, Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) Women composers' Showcase in New Jersey City, Society of Composers Inc. (SCI) National Conference, Southeastern Composers Symposium, International Double Reed Society (IDRS) conference, New Music Society in Seoul, Korea, and New Music Concert in Berlin, Germany. Her orchestra piece, SAN (The Mountain) was premiered by Sinfonia Orchestra of Bucharest at George Enescu Hall in Bucharest, Romania on October 2004, and her string orchestra piece, Gate R was commissioned and premiered by R20 (String Orchestra) in Wroclaw, Poland on March 2006. Her electroacoustic music has been performed at Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival (FEMF) and International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) Congress 2006, and many dance concerts and electroacoustic music concerts in America, Europe, and Korea.
She was commissioned by many international chamber ensemble groups: Anton Webern Ensemble in Berlin, Germany, ProContemporonia in Bucharest Romania, Les Basses in Seoul, Korea, R20 (String Orchestra) in Wroclaw, Poland, and Trio Bartók in Malaga, Spain.
Dr. Kim is a native of Korea, earned her BA at E-Wha Women's University in Seoul, Korea, where she studied theory and composition with Prof. Grace Park; her MA at New York University, where she studied composition and film scoring with Dr. Ron Mazurek and Dr. Dinu Ghezzo; her Ph.D. at University of Florida, where she studied both acoustic and electroacoustic music composition with Dr. James Paul Sain, Dr. Paul Koonce and Dr. Paul Richards. She taught Music Technology, Scoring for Orchestra and Music Theory including basic written theory, ear-training, and sight-singing, at the University of Florida and has been a staff accompanist for the Dance Department of New York University and the University of Florida.

Chan Ji Kim’s chamber ensemble piece, 9 years for clarinet in Bb, cello, and piano is released on CD by PARMA • Navona records, which is the 27th edition of the Society of Composers, Inc. CD Series. Her piccolo solo piece, Lunar Dance is released on CD (more info at www.piccoloist.com. Her children’s piece, Ja-jang-ga (lullaby) for Cello ad Piano is selected as a required piece for Sejong music competition, and is available in print in Required Repertoire Book, fourth edition(2008). Her music has been released on CD's and has aired on KBS radio in Korea, and on SCI student chapter CD vol.4 (Memoria #2 for solo piano and Three moments for Clarinet Ensemble), and CD vol.5 (Some Beautiful Things in Life for two pianos). Her Bassoon solo piece, a Year from Tomorrow is available in print in TrevCo Music, and on CD on AGS (Akashibu Gakufu Shuppan) in Japan. Her reviews include the journal of DTKV - Deautscher Tonkünstler-Vlerband (The German Tone-Artist Federation) in Berlin, “different and very interesting composition” about her chamber ensemble piece performed by the Anton Webern Quartet at the BKA theater in 2005, and the journal of The Double Reed (vol. 29 in 2006), “...a beautiful melody” and “If you are looking for a more challenging piece...consider Chan Ji Kim’s A Year from Tomorrow.” In the Winter 2005 computer music journal, Larry Austin said, “Chan Ji Kim’s Awaiting, nicely mixed with sustained tones, and reflectively soulful.” In the web magazine (audaud.com) Classical CD Reviews published on August 20, 2013, Daniel Coombs said “I found 9 Years for clarinet, cello and piano by Chan Ji Kim to be one of the highlights of this collection...this piece is a solid addition to what is already a very rich oeuvre for this trio combination.”
Dr. Kim is a member of the board of directors of International Composers and Interactive Artists (ICIA), and Associate Professor of Music at the Eastern Florida State College where she teaches theory, composition, and electroacoustic music.
