Mr. Mayor
Ah, I appreciate that my comments were noticed by someone and were not in vain. I've left similar comments a few times now when removing these tags on other people (paraphrasing the film Top Secret!, where the bad guy tells the hospital receptionist on the phone to "notify him of any changes in the patient's condition", then hangs up the phone and announces "he's dead".) Anyway... Mad Jack 20:57, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Lynne Thigpen
I wrote a lot of that article. It was VERY difficult for me to remain NPOV. Lynne shone like a gem in a five-and-ten store. I kept wishing I could grab users by the throat, and say, "Hey, you, listen up. This was somebody special, not because she was pretty, but because she was beautiful" but I couldn't figure out how to do it.
Someone once asked how you discuss Hitler in an NPOV way, and TPTB said that you don't say he was evil, you simply give the facts of his life and his leadership, and let the user decide for himself.
What I see so far, you're doing a good job. Good luck!
Scot Ross
Scot Ross apparently lost his campaign to be nominated for the Wisconsin SoS. Does he have any other claim to notability? If not we should nominate the biography for deletion. -Will Beback 01:02, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think that either being a failed primary candidate or being a political manager are considered sufficient accomplishments to make a person notable. I assume that many hundreds of people seek nominations for state and federal offices every two years. Unless they have some other claim to fame then we don't need articles about them. -Will Beback 01:37, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Here is the AfD page: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scot Ross. It's nicely written but we have to draw the line somewhere. You can and should share your opinion if you have one. Let me know if you have any questions.
- PS: Thanks also for your general contributions. I see you've been adding talk page headers, etc. - you keep popping up on my watchlist. Cheers, -Will Beback 08:52, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Aaaaaaand the article is gone....because clearly, it's far more important for us to have a 70 kb article on, say, "All Your Base are Belong to Us", than someone who's just a politician. (I'm not ranting at any one person, as people are just doing their wikijobs - it's just something I'm angry about in general.) NickBurns 11:02, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's a crazy world. Yes, Angelina Jolie's baby gets more attention than a thousand starving babies in the Sudan. Yes, Wikipedia has longer articles about new pop singers than about old emperors. But we do try to be consistent, by creating criteria for inclusion. Unsuccessful politicians, bands that never get a record contract, artists who don't have one-man shows, and many other fine folks are deemed to be insufficiently notable for articles here. As big as Wikipedia is, there's not room for everybody. However, deletion is not forever. If the subject does something notable, like winning a political race for a siginifcant post, then we can resurrect that old article in a moment. I hope that happens. Cheers, -Will Beback 12:14, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
I will be looking at ways to see if I can suggest that Wikipedia redefine or clarify notability as it relates to politicians. I can understand that having an article about every political candidate nationwide would be ridiculous; it is not notable that Joe Schmo won the race of Recorder of Deeds for Schmo Boro, Anywhere, USA. However, in major races (and "major" would need to be defined) it does not seem encyclopedic to me to only list the winners. NickBurns 19:34, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Courtney Love
You said: "Hi Yamla, just wondering why all of the pictures on this page were deleted? I didn't put them there, and I saw someone asked for a different picture of her on the talk page....was just curious what happened. Thanks."
- Well, none of them had detailed fair-use rationales and all had been marked as such. But about the main image depicting Love, WP:FUC. Please feel free to ask for a greater explanation if this does not answer your questions. --Yamla18:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Hey. Regarding the Courtney Love edits, I'm not sure I like having the controversies broken up like that. They look rather humorless now. I could pretend I have some huge, fancy argument about it being wrong, but I don't--I just think it is less appealing the way it is now. Would you mind reverting them? Mistertruffles 21:11, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for considering my opinion. I'll take a second look at it later on. On a similar tangent, did you separate out her acting career? I don't think she'd really appreciate it being called 'secondary', even though I agree with you in terms of its quality being secondary, and ultimately I think it's not appropriate for us to make that call. I think those details would actually be better served if placed, as you've said, in chronological order. So, if you don't mind I'd like to move those details back into the "Celebrity Skin era" section. Eventually, my friend and I plan on adding the other movie's details into her life story, which I think is preferable to sectioning them off, since the early stuff doesn't really make sense next to the later stuff. It's been a very long time since we talked...life has been so busy for me. You should look into getting an AIM account. I'm on that all the time.
Anyway, I'm here to show you a nice screenshot I put on the Beverlee article. I had some old Guiding Light episodes on my computer and ran it through the screen capture device. Take a look and tell me what you think. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 20:48, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Nick:
Just dropping by to smile knowing you're still around; I've been wandering down memory lane, thinking about all the things I used to do and the friends I've lost touch with. Thanks so much for fixing the Blair Brown page! I always feel bad when I add a tag like wikify because it makes me feel lazy for not just doing it myself. --Dmz5 18:58, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Mo'Nique
Mo'Nique does in fact weight well over 400lbs as I found out first hand from her hair dresser. You wouldn't allow this source but you allowed somebody to put a blantant lie about legendary wrestler Jose Lothario when they stated that "Jose died by having sex with a monkey" Their references were also porn links which by the way I fixed as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joetodaro (talk • contribs) 06:59, 14 December, 2006 (UTC)
- Hearsay ("I heard it first hand from her hairdresser") is not sufficient enough proof. It needs to be something verifiable. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources or WP:REF for how this is defined. Also, when making comments on someone's talk page, please follow proper protocol. Add your comments at the bottom of the page, and sign your comments - signatures are done by adding four tildes (the ~ key, just to the left of the 1 key on your keyboard). Thanks! I've added this link to the Dusty Springfield Page many time but a vandal called ravenfire keeps deleting it. I iknow who he is, a former owner of another Dusty forum site. What can i do besides keep adding it..it's getting tedious

3RR reporting
Hello! If you want to see how a report is filled out correctly then a sample is provided at the end of the page, linked above. You can always look at the other reports on the page to see what yours should look like, when completed. It is best to provide diffs for evidence when you make your case as it can be quite a task to wade through an editors' history if they are particularly active. Providing as much assistance as possible to an arbitrator when creating the case is very much appreciated! The diffs can be found on an article's history tab. Dusty Springfield (pt. 2)
First, thanks so much Nick for your devoted maintenance of that page, a job nicely done. I confess to lapsing into theory on the Interpretive singer paragraphs, but I feel strongly that her reputation as such must be mentioned, she's one of but a handful to base a career on it in her time, and many say she was simply the best at it full stop. I also think it's much nicer than calling her a "blue eyed soul singer" (which to me has always sounded like a back handed compliment at best). Also I think Soft Core and her Marlene impression with the vaudeville piano bears mentioning (if not Carole Pope per se...). I thought I had carefully stated Pope as her companion (which she arguably was as evidenced by photos of the two hanging out together).... THANKS AGAIN.--Tednor 07:39, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hey I saw you did Odessa's page and then came back to see you really are in Madison, so am I. Weird... Hey have you heard of Roisin Murphy? I think you'll dig her if you haven't, I like most of your taste in music, not bad at all. What happened with Kirsty? Negiligence?? I had no idea....--Tednor 08:11, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Dusty Springfield (pt. 3)
I find it amazing that LTD team, Barleywater, and others, inform you that they claim to know who I am when they clearly have no idea whatsoever. They don't even have my gender correct! They should be very careful about making accusatory comments such as this in such a public arena as they are in very real danger of making libellous comments. Any such continuance of unfounded allegations made in this hostile manner may result in legal action. Ravenfire 10:35, 31 December 2006 (UTC)]]
- Was that Donal Trump? I have loads of Ro/Moloko if you want any, just say the word. I've been in Ro's forums for almost two years now, cool peeps there and fun!--Tednor 17:21, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hey Nick, yes, i'll leave the top three links as you request, adding the LTD one further down. BarleywaterBarleywater 12:35, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
After a weeks or so of peace they're back deleting all links, no doubt distessed and upset that there is to be Dusty Day 2007. To remove any links is sheer vandalism but to remove that of the Simon Bell's website, who has been working hard to organise the event, demonstrates clearly thathe ravenfire/seramphimblade person is twisted by hatred, and it's consuming them. I've restored the links exactly as they were on 12th January, and had been for a week or so. Like you, i wish they could be left alone.

Things To Make and Do
Hey it's me Tednor, not logged in I just realized. I accidentally blanked that page (this is why I seldom try to put footnotes in) can you fix it for me? thanks!!--4.159.180.50 17:55, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Info on Sing it Back should really be in all three article (SIB, Things to Make and Do, and I am Not a Doctor) as it had equal historical impact on all of them, and a simple link isn't going to give that impression, so I think elaboration is due in all cases on this one.--4.159.180.50 17:57, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fix (I have good knowledge but I'm soooo sloppy!) If you want any tracks just say the word mate!--4.159.180.50 18:01, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Statues
Hey, no problem. I've actually tried to get others to look at it and edit me objectively but no takers with good Moloko knowledge. I actually just trimmed a lot today, don't know when you saw the article. It's hard becuae the album is SO impactive on the group and one must get a sense of all that was going on. That can be acheived quite a bit throught the songs, but the trick is describing them in a manner that doesn't seek to DEFINE them for others. My biggest WIKI flaw is that I will err on the side of including stuff in hopes others will tailor it. Sometimes this doesn't happen and what I've written sits there and gets more embarassing over time... Other times people take out what I feel should have been left in, c'est la vie! We could start by simply linking fan review page from Amazon for Statutes c.d., that's an easy one. I'll try researching the forums myself. thanks for input and cleaning up me constant mess!--Tednor 18:24, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, did a few more tweaks, I think the quoted lyrics do a better job of describing the nature of the songs to avoid POV in the article. I've found that any description whatever can be called into question and probably will be, but quotes help to back up the impression. Also I think Over and Over should end the way I have it now, that's what I was trying to say all along and that simple placement does it for me. Thanks for the back and fro, that's what I need but seldom get around here.--Tednor 22:21, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Check out these fan mixes some are good ( i really like Robber's Fools Gold Mix of Sing it Back), there's a Zero 7 mix and a Lamb mix (also good) in there as well...[1] (tednor)--4.254.101.26 05:06, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I understand why you reverted my placing of the city into the date of birth sentence, because although it is widespread in usage, the Manual of Style shows that the correct format is just the date. But is there a particular reason you're being really gung-ho about reverting "born" back to "b."? "Born" is more grammatically appropriate. NickBurns 06:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- thanks for taking the time to leave a note...it's rarely done, and i admit, i too, should do it more often. technically it's not an issue of grammar, but one of style and format. 18:52, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

John Waters photograph
Nick, I took a photograph of the director John Waters (one I think is good) and I've placed it on the pages for his movies, which he wrote and directed. There is one user who continues to remove it. Would you please weigh in with your opinion on the Talk page as to whether you feel it is relevant to include a graphic representation of the creator of a work on that works page? Thoughts would be appreciated. --
- Yeah, I'm definitely not looking for a revert war. I'm going to address the issue on one of the discussion pages on image use and see what kind of feedback I get. Thanks for giving an opinion. Dave --DavidShankBone22:22, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
NY Times Article
- I didn't realize there was an anti-Wales contingent on WP, but it makes sense, considering how large the WP community is. Did you really see his photo? It would seem that, at 24, a photo of him would have revealed he was not a PhD-ed Professor? Speaking of photos, I went up to Poughkeepsie to photograph Billy Name yesterday - quite the experience.
Yeah, it was quite an experience. I didn't get back into the city until 12:30am and I'm super exhausted today; having trouble concentrating at work. Essjay isn't much my type, per those photos. I feel bad for him, though. --

Buchanan article
Hi Nick. No apology needed. My statement isn't so nice and I was, in my frustration, adding to the fray rather than advancing a reasonable discussion. As my own aopology I will have a mixed basket of kittens, puppies and baby rabbits delivered to your door. More seriously, I think what underlies this is that several editors seem to feel that even raising the subject somehow besmirches the man. If James Buchanan were homosexual I feel badly that he could not have had much of a relationship iin his time. In my mind President Buchanan's allowing eight slave states to secede and then pretty much do nothing is what makes his reputation less than sterling. I see you live in the cheese state. I saw Wisconsin this summer for a family reunion. We were in Door County. Beautiful. On the subject of small, and cute mammals, I think you might be intrigued by the work of Canadian artist, Bill Burns (a lost brother?). He's authored, and illustrated, a fantastic festishistically produced little book called "Safety Gear for Small Animals." My Apologies
If my question regarding your striking of your vote came across as overly aggressive, or angry in any way, I apologize. I saw your cleanup, you did a good job. My issue with the article was that a lot of it was clearly taken from her myspace page. I had rewritten the article, but another user kept reverting my edits. I was in the mood to have an edit war, so I let it go. However, a few of the sentences still don't look right. Like the part about the twins joining the band and expanding the sound. Maybe, I'll go over it again. I'll take the cleanup tag off, if you like. kc12286 23:37, 14 April 2007 (UTC)kc12286
- Yeah the user who kept reverting my edits was someone who worked for her management team. I got tired of fighting with him, even though it was clear advertisement. It is hard to find decent articles on her, because she's so new. kc12286 00:25, 15 April 2007 (UTC)kc12286
