M/I Homes, Inc. founded in 1976, is a homebuilding company that consists of homebuilding and financial services. ^[1] has been building new homes of outstanding quality and superior design for more than 40 years and is known nationally for the M/I Difference: M/I Financial, our Design Studio, our Whole Home Building Standards, and their industry leading Warranty Commitment.^[2]

History

In 1976 M/I Homes was founded in Columbus, Ohio by cousins Melvin and Irving Schottenstein.^[3] In 1982, after a decade of expansion M/I homes opened its first location in Tampa, Florida and three years later Orlando. In the late 80s They opened their first location in North Carolina: Raleigh and Charlotte.^[4]

IN 1988 they established M/I Financial, as well as expanded into Cincinnati, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.

The response to M/I Homes’ designs, quality, and integrity prompted more expansion. By 1993, M/I became a public company and is listed on the NYSE.

In 2003, Founder Irving Schottenstein passed the baton to a new generation when his son Robert Schottenstein was named CEO.^[5]

In both 2008 and 2009, J.D. Power & Associates recognized M/I Homes for the “Highest Customer Satisfaction with Home Builders in Columbus.” And in 2008, Builder Magazine named CEO Robert Schottenstein “Builder of the Year in recognition of his decisive leadership through the Great Recession.^[6]

In 2010 their Tampa division was recognized by J.D. Power & Associates for the “Highest Customer Satisfaction with Homebuilders,” ^[7]

2020 marked an exciting year for M/I Homes headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, as they moved to their brand new corporate office building in Easton Town Center.^[8]

Directors

Robert H Schottenstein: Chairman/President/CEO, M/I Homes Inc Chairman of the Company since March 2004, Chief Executive Officer of the Company since January 2004 and President of the Company since May 1996. Mr. Schottenstein currently serves as a director of L Brands, Inc. and served as a director of Installed Building Products, Inc. from April 2014 until March 2020. Mr. Schottenstein also serves on the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and on the Board of Directors of The Ohio State University Foundation. In addition, Mr. Schottenstein serves on the Executive Committee of The Harvard University Joint Center for Housing. Mr. Schottenstein served as a Trustee of The Ohio State University (“OSU”) from 2005 to 2014 and as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of OSU from 2012 to 2014.^[9]

Phillip G Creek: Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Chief Financial Officer of the Company since September 2000, Executive Vice President of the Company since February 2008 and Chief Financial Officer of M/I Financial Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company (“M/I Financial”), since September 2000.^[10]

J. Thomas Mason: Executive Vice President Executive Vice President of the Company since June, 2021. Previously, General Counsel and Secretary since July 2002 and Chief Legal Officer from November 2011 to June 2021. Prior to joining the Company in 2002, Mr. Mason was a partner with the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP in Columbus Ohio.^[11]

Susan E. Krohne: Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Counsel and Secretary of the Company since June 2021. Ms. Krohne joined Pecor Investments in 2003 and served as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel from 2010 until April 2021.^[12]
