Who I am

Rémi Mathis is a curator at the Department of prints and photographs of the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

A 17th c. historian, he has mainly worked on the Foreign Affairs Department under

Louis XIV, jansenism and the history of the book and prints; he is an alumnus of the École nationale des chartes ("archiviste paléographe" diploma, 2007) and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Sciences de l'information et des Bibliothèques
(enssib, 2008).

Greatly involved in the issues about knowledge dissemination, he is the president of

Wikimédia France
and a sysop on French-speaking Wikipédia. Before being elected chair, he has been at the board for two years and was the project manager of the Wikisource agreement signed with the French National Library and is still working with GLAMs to promote open access and data dissemination.

He is now the curator in charge of the XVIIth c. collections of the prints department of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the editor of Nouvelles de l'estampe and a teacher of prints history at the Ecole des Chartes and the Ecole du Louvre.

He can speak French (native), English (4), Italian (2), German (2), Latin (1), and is trying to learn Spanish and Dutch.

What I do

As a Frenchman, I write a few English articles but the greatest part of my job is to translate English articles for the French Wikipedia. I also correct errors and add interwiki links.
