You may want to move the answer of question number 1 to questions number 2 or 3 and rather explain on what are you planning to use the tools instead of explaining how you got the free images and the Carmen Electra dispute to number 3, as you will likely get some oppose votes if you don't. Thanks

205.188.0.0/16, Vandalbot, etc..

Just a request, but is it possible to include a diff in a blocking summary? I only ask because when i hit an AOL block I usually make an effort to look up the history of that IP to find out why the block is there, since obviously non sysops can't see the edit history of an IP range, it leaves users hit by the block some what in the dark, a diff showing the Vandalbot in action would probably soften the blow for people affected by the block, since it would allow them to know why--152.163.100.196 05:17, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it's possible to show an dif in a block summarry. The recent vandalbots are from bad user creation names from the same vandal that are being created by the hundreds every day like

The Vandal Has Decided to QUIT

I am the infamous Johnny Knight, as you may know. Well, I used to make legitimate, albeit minor, anonymous edits for a while using AOL, until I saw the article about myg0t, it made me laugh my socks off. Then, I saw it get deleted and the discussion page got deleted too. Then I thought "I MUST EXACT MY REVENGE!!!" So, I created account after account, realizing how fun it was to troll Wikipedia and antagonize admins like you, SV, Shanel, Pilotguy, DakotaKahn, etc. I actually made very few vandalous edits (<10?) But ended up creating about 500 accounts with crazy usernames. I actually don't support Nazism, but just made those usernames to troll with. I did not use ANY bots, entirely by hand, courtesy of AOL. I created various identities, such as Johnny Knight, SPAM-MAN, Dr. Destructo, admin-attacking names, etc. And I observed the anger and then I thought: this is so fucking fun! I got over 100000 IP addresses blocked (205.188.0.0/16 and 64 something /16) Tonight, I was going outside to take out the trash, when I heard this ghastly moaning sound coming from my backyard. Naturally, I was curious, so I walked over there................and MY WORST FEARS WERE REALIZED, I saw this teenage girl, a complete stranger, giving birth alone to an extremely deformed baby in my backyard. The girl died shortly thereafter from excessive bleeding (hemorrhage). I ran to the house, got my mom and called 911! The girl was pronounced dead at the scene by the 911 people. Anyway, then I thought, maybe I'll troll Wikipedia some more to ease the fears so I could go to bed, but I checked your user talk page, since I had been trolling you and Wikipedia for about a week. I saw I had become a bit [in]famous, but then I read about how AOL might put in the XFF headers, and I thought SHIT HOW WILL I EVER EXPLAIN THIS, and WHAT IF COLLEGES FIND OUT (I'm 15). The same thing once happened to me when I used to vandalize guestbooks (of completely random strangers) months ago and gradually got bored with it. One guy threatened to come after me with "his boys" and I used the alternate identity of "Joe Schmuck". And I thought, WHY THE FUCK AM I DOING THIS???!!! So, I have decided to quit fucking around. I, Johnny Knight, do solemnly swear to stop trolling Wikipedia and Wikipedia admins, so help me GOD, AOL, and MY PARENTS. Could you not call AOL about this, may I repent, for I have done something wrong? 205.188.117.68 04:20, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

I wonder how Fair Use vigilantes ever get to became Admins. The oppose votes based on "low edit count" is one thing (they have this rule and follow it mostly consistently), but if every one concerned with Wikipedia becoming more "ugly" without "fair use images" gets his vote to count... Anyway I'm liking the process as a whole. Just wanted to know what they call "confrontational" on my behaviour, so that I could avoid that later. --Abu Badali 11:56, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I Found a Way

In July you protected the article I Found a Way after there were numerous deletions over the course of half a year or so (I count 9 deletions). Someone post the article now at

I Found a way as a way to get around the article protection apparently. I reduced it to a stub and was wondering your opinion on it. User:Tyrenius (probably correctly) said no to the speedy deletion tag I had put on it saying that it's a much better version than any of the previous versions and suggested a merge or if I really felt strongly about getting rid of it, an AfD. Apparently its the theme song to some TV show, it makes the song notable, so I won't go the route of AfD, but I'm wondering if you would mind lifting your protection to move the article to its proper title/capitalization (and then semi-protect if you think that's appropriate). I have no vested interest in the article, I just wikified it and attempted to move it when I saw the past history. Thanks, Metros232

FA reviews for Version 0.5

Hi Jaranda, I know you're busy, but would you be able to look over the sports FAs at Wikipedia:Version_0.5_FA_Review#Sport and games? I already asked Nifboy to help finish off the computer games article reviews. I'm hoping we can tie up the loose ends on that section by Thursday - is that possible? I will take care of the Geography section. Thanks for all the general article reviews you've done too, I'm pretty hopeful we can get to 1500 articles by publication. Thanks! If you could look over
Donald Bradman too, I nominated it in June and it still hasn't been reviewed. I know you prefer your cricket with a cylindrical bat (i.e., baseball), but this seems like an obvious one to me - a nice article on the world's #1 cricketer of all time. I think Nifboy is doing the games part of sports & games, and I should be able to finish off the Geography myself (though you're welcome to pitch in if you have time). I didn't want to overburden you as I know you've been busy, and I wasn't sure if you were fully recovered from your surgery - are you? Cheers, Walkerma
22:09, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
I take your point about the refs section in the Bradman article being weak - only 2 listed at the end, though the article contains 6 in all (three external in text, one in the batting record chart). I think the Cricketing WikiProject's A-Class assessment is optimistic, but only slightly so, and I think it's probably better than the Nolan Ryan article. IMHO Bradman's importance is about equivalent to Babe Ruth, and I would have hated to see V0.5 exclude him. I'm also concerned that we only have one rather minor cricketer included (Brian Close) (cricket is weaker than baseball on Wikipedia - see Viv Richards, one of cricket's top ten!). Should I ask a third party for their views? Thanks, Walkerma 03:51, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Shortly thereafter, Cardinalwraith sent me an email, which he said he also sent to you, explaining his confusion about images, and that he is now more aware of the policy and will be much more cautious in uploading images from now on. His confusion seems pretty genuine; what do you think about unblocking him with the condition that he has no more problems with image copyright tags? Jack Tatum, Ryan Leaf

Sorry I took a while to look at these, there is so much going on at the moment I overlooked them! Since I don't know much about American football, I took a look at the Sporting News Top 100, but didn't see Jack Tatum there. I didn't expect to see Ryan Leaf there! I agree we should have at least a couple of NFL players listed if possible, but are these the best two to choose? I realise there are other reasons for notability - for example Jackie Robinson may not be a top 10 player, but he was historically important in baseball. Are either of these players world famous in the sport for such other reasons (the paralysis of Stingley, or being a famous "flop")? The top ten players from the SN list are:

  1. Jim Brown
  2. Jerry Rice
  3. Joe Montana
  4. Lawrence Taylor
  5. Johnny Unitas
  6. Don Hutson
  7. Otto Graham
  8. Walter Payton
  9. Dick Butkus
  10. Bob Lilly

Do any of these articles seem to be a better choice to you, balancing importance vs quality? Most don't have proper citations, though the Taylor article does have some refs. Since you know the field (and I don't) I'd appreciate your comments and guidance on this, but to me it doesn't seem right to represent the sport with two players from outside the top 100 - rather like including Troy, New York but not New York City.

Thanks again for all your help, and I hope you're doing well. Walkerma 08:41, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
