I was hit with this. It hurt, bad. However, it knocked some sense into me :).

This is just a set of questions I'll ask User:Calton some day when I feel like I can take a brutal pounding from his/her ever-witty Brick of common sense :)

(Yes, all these questions are sincere, albiet this is a scratchpad - I'm trying to learn here - maybe get out of that "incompetent" category :))

Questions

  1. Any good books or other material to improve debating skills? (maybe wityness too, if that is possible :) )
  2. Why do you do mostly janitorial (I'm assuming RC Patrol) stuff? Why not do featured article patrolling?
  3. Why not become an admin? (Actually sort of scares me - he might start banning incompetent people - and I'll be in the middle of that list!!!!)
  4. Why call people trolls? Why not use something more precise like "misinformed" or "needs work in X area"? Just calling them loathesome trolls seems overly mean?
  5. (difficult to phrase question, already tried once - had a near-fatal encounter with that brick :)) What is the harm in giving people "infinite chances"? I.E. Aardvark IMHO seemed like a good contributer before the personal attack stuff, then afterwards seemed to be the "victim" of an admin pile-on - I.E. per User:Ikiroid's criticism at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive87#Blu_Aardvark:_I_recommend_a_permanent_ban. What do you think should be done in a situation like that? Just assume it is too bad and move on?
