Conflict Styles

Conflict style refers to the way in which a person approaches and handles conflict. There are currently five widely-accepted conflict styles.[1]

Conflict

Conflict can be defined as “the interaction of interdependent people who perceive opposition of goals, aims, and values, and who see the other party as potentially interfering with the realization of these goals”. [2] Conflict is present in any situation that involves more than one person which makes managing conflict a necessary skill. [2] In 1964, Robert R. Blake and Jane Mouton created the managerial grid model[3] which led to the creation of the five types of conflict styles: problem-solving, smoothing, forcing, withdrawal, and sharing.[1] In 1976, Kenneth W. Thomas and Ralph H. Kilmann adapted the model into what is known as the Thomas-Kilmann Instrument which is primarily used in conflict management.[4]

Article Evaluation

Relational Dialectics - article I am reviewing.

Notes:

Link to Barbara Montgomery in first paragraph does not connect to an existing page.

Yin and yang reference doesn't seem pertinent.

The link to the definition of model seems unnecessary to the article.

The link to the definition of heterosexual also seems unnecessary.

The examples of relationships left out work relationships.

Social media is left out despite its impact on daily life.

Theory applications section doesn't include applications that are more common, everyday occurrences.

There is a lot of information in the article, and the majority of it can be tied in some way to relational dialectics/communication. However, some of those ties are very weak. The overall tone of the article doesn't seem biased to any side. I have had trouble checking the reference links as Wikipedia continues to time out.

There are a lot of suggestions on the Talk page that would make the article clearer to read and understand.

Suggested adding information on social media and relational dialectics, provided source:

Wikipedia Assignment

Topic: Conflict styles

There is currently not an existing article for this topic, and there is nothing on the Talk page. I will be making the first contributions to the topic. Because I will be starting from scratch, I have listed several sources. I will provide a brief definition of conflict from a communication viewpoint, list and define the 5 conflict styles, and discuss the implications of study on this topic.
