"Cross My Heart" is a song recorded by Canadian pop rock group Marianas Trench for their second studio album, Masterpiece Theatre (2009). Written by lead singer Josh Ramsay, it was released via 604 Records as the album's lead single on November 24, 2008.[1] "Cross My Heart" has peaked at No. 15 on the Canadian Hot 100 and has been certified 2× Platinum by Music Canada.
Commercial performance
"Cross My Heart" entered the Canadian Hot 100 at number 54 for the week ending January 3, 2009.[2] It reached a peak position of 41 in its initial run before dropping off the chart for the week ending January 24, 2009.[3] The following week, it re-entered the chart at 42, earning "Best Comeback" recognition for the week.[4] On the chart dated February 21, 2009, "Cross My Heart" reached its peak position of 15.[5] The song peaked at number 9 on the Hot Canadian Digital Singles component chart in early 2009.[6] The song won the Sirius XM INDIES award for favourite Astral Media Radio single for 2010.[7]
Music video
The video for "Cross My Heart" was shot in Vancouver, BC and was directed by Colin Minihan of The Vicious Brothers.[8] It premiered December 16, 2008.[9] The music video starts off with Josh Ramsay singing to the a woman that he is following throughout the course of the video. While going down the street, people start to hear the song, and follow along. From painters and construction workers, to teenagers from the streets, they all form a parade with the rest of the band playing on a float. In the end, the woman being followed takes out her headphones, and hears Josh singing to her. She turns around and sees the crowd cheering and applauding to her. She invites him in, the song ends and the crowd stops cheering.
