Tessandra Chavez is an Emmy award-winning choreographer.

Life

Tessandra grew up in San Diego, California. At the age of five years old Tessandra began dancing. Soon after, she started her career in choreographing at eleven, leading her to start her own dance company, "Unity Dance Ensemble," at fifteen. Tessandra has stated that her ambition to master dance stemmed from "the struggle of growing up in a low-income single-parent household."

Career

Tessandra has had technical training in Jazz, Tap, Modern, Ballet, and Hip-Hop. She has a diverse education of dance. She's not only considered one of the best dance instructors in the industry, but also one of the best dance choreographers. Most notably, Tessandra nominated for two Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography. In 2015, she was nominated for her choreography for Sia's "Elastic Heart" during the season finale of Dancing with the Stars, along with celebrity choreographers Julianne Hough and Derek Hough. In 2019, Tessandra won the Emmy for her choreography on World of Dance.

She also has extensive television and music video experience. Tessandra choreographed the music video "Dead Inside" for the band MUSE. The music video has over 33 million views and features So You Think You Can Dance all stars, Kathryn McCormick and William Wingfield. She's worked as a choreographer on other dance competitions such as Dancing with the Stars in China, Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, D-Trix’s Dance Showdown and Disney's Dance Crew. Tessandra was a choreographer for the film "Heartbeats", directed by dance film director Duane Adler. [1],

Before winning her Emmy, Tessandra was the head of Jazz at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, for six years. From there, she gained status and even more credibility within the dance community.
