Tagesa from Tiv language (Nigeria), meaning "to compete". A ombination of the verb 'Ta' (meaning 'to engage')and the noun 'gesa' (meaning 'competition'). This is not a very common name as it is given to people who are perceived to have a strong sense of competition as means of personal and community development. One such person is TAGESA AKPAGHER (1910-1984), a famous fighter and village head of Akpagher village in Mbatiav district of Benue state (Nigeria). He was a successful fighter and an acomplished farmer.
