Sophie Chatel

Early Life Sophie Chatel was born in

University of Sherbrooke in 1997 and earned her CPA
in 2000.

Career in Public Service After working for several accounting and law firms in the greater Montreal region as a financial advisor, Sophie Chatel entered the public service of the Government of Canada on August, 2002. From 2002-2017 Sophie worked at Canada’s Department of Finance and at the Canada Revenue Agency where she worked on international tax policy for the Canadian government. Sophie was also, for many years, a delegate to the committees responsible for tax treaties at the OECD and at the United Nations. From September 2017 to June 2021, Sophie Chatel was the Head of the Tax Treaty Unit at the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration where she worked on the development and negotiation of global solutions to the tax challenges of the digitalization of the economy. In May, 2021, Sophie returned to the Department of Finance as Senior Director, International Tax Legislation and lead the project to draft a legislation for digital service tax that for the Minister of Finance.

Liberal Candidate for Pontiac Riding After incumbent MP William Amos decided against running on August 8, 2021, Sophie was acclaimed[1] as the Liberal candidate for the Pontiac riding.[2] In various public interviews she has expressed the importance of preserving Pontiac’s natural patrimony, creating economic opportunity by better linking rural communities, while meeting the challenge of climate change by investing in a ‘sustainable prosperity.’[3]
