Roberto Sabatini is an Australian researcher engineer, academic and entrepreneur known for his work in aeronautics, astronautics and defense. Sabatini has been actively involved in the advancement of intelligent and autonomous flight systems for practical applications. Sabatini is a

Institution of Engineers Australia, as well as a Member of the City and Guilds of London Institute
(MCGI).

Biography

Sabatini holds a PhD from

).

Currently, Sabatini holds a distinguished position in the Aerospace Engineering Department at

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS),[3] Chair of the AESS Avionics Systems Panel,[4] Member of the AESS Board of Governors,[5] and AESS Vice President for Technical Operations,[6] among other roles.[7][8][9]
Throughout his career, Sabatini has led various Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) programs globally, contributing significantly to sectors such as commercial air transport, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), geospatial and geophysical surveying, command and control, suborbital spaceflight, wildfire detection and management, as well as agriculture and environmental monitoring.

Research

Sabatini's work primarily involves addressing current issues in avionics, space travel, and the design, testing, and certification of robotics and autonomous systems. He emphasizes the importance of cyber-physical systems and AI in the digital transformation and sustainable development of the aerospace and aviation industries. His areas of interest include trusted autonomy, urban and regional air mobility, distributed space systems, space domain awareness, and multi-domain traffic management. Sabatini has written and contributed to several books and has a significant number of articles published in peer-reviewed international journals and conference proceedings. He was recognized by the 2021 Australian Research Special Report for his contributions to Aerospace Engineering and Aviation.

FAA New and Emerging Aviation Technologies (NEAT) Program, the NASA Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Ecosystem Working Groups,[18] the FAA/NextGen Tech Talks Series, and the NASA/FAA UAS Traffic Management (UTM) Research Transition Team.[19]
