Hummurabi's Laws

Humurabi

In ancient Mesopoamia, a king from babylon named Hubburabi, was told by the gods to make a new set of laws. He inprinted the 282 laws on stone pillars out in the open so everyone can see. His laws were based on "an eye for an eye". His stadegy was to scare people into the law with harsh punishments such as death, lose a part of their body, pay a fine, or get tortured. Here is a list of some of his laws.

Our laws

Today, we try to get people to respect the law rather than fearing it. If a person today breaks the law can learn from their mistakes and is given another chance. Our laws also protect people from being accused for something they didn't do.
