Natural gums are the naturally occurring polysaccharides which can largely increase the viscosity of the solution when added even at smaller concentrations. These gums find their applications as thickening agents, gelling agents, emulsifying agents and stabilizers in the food industry. Also used as adhesives, binding agents, crystallization inhibitors, clarifying agents, encapsulating agents, flocculating agents, swelling agents and foam stabilizers, these naturally occurring gums and gum powders find their applications in various industries like paper industry, mining industry, pharmaceutical industry, textile industry and many more.

Guar gum and Guar gum powder

Also known as Guaran, guar gum is obtained from guar seeds which are dehusked, milled and screened to obtain the gum. Having higher low-shear viscosity, Guar gum is more soluble than other hydrocolloids like locust bean gum. It is a better emulsifier which prevents oil droplets from coalescing and an efficient stabilizer that helps to prevent solid particles from settling. With eight times more water thickening capacity than corn starch, only very small quantity of Guar gum is sufficient to produce large viscosity and thus is comparatively more economical than corn starch. The guar gum powder is a whitish and yellowish colored powder obtained from the ground endosperm of guar plant. Produced in the North West regions of India and some parts of Pakistan, Guar gum is powdered to form the nutritive guar gum powder that is good for health as it helps in lowering blood glucose and insulin levels. Green guar is the source of vegetables and also fed to cattle. Belonging to the family of Caesalpiniaceae, cassia tora is a wild crop grown in the warm moist soil of the tropical states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in India. Commonly known as sickle pod, Cassia Tora acts as a liver stimulant, mild laxative and heart tonic. With very good nutritive and medicinal values, the cassia tora powder that is obtained from cassia tora seeds is helpful in combating indigestion, toning up heart muscles and purifying blood. The cassia tora paste is generally used for treating skin ailments and also for getting rid of chronic diseases. Tamarind Kernel powder

Tamarind kernel powder is derived from the plant Tamarindus Indica. The tamarind seeds consist of husk and white kernel. Psyllium husk and powder

Obtained from psyllium plants, psyllium husk is derived from dried ripe seeds of plantago ovata frosk. The Psyllium husks are thoroughly cleaned to separate the waste products. The psyllium husks and psyllium powders are used for various purposes like lowers cholesterol level in blood, curing constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, acidity, ulcers, piles and other bowel disorders. Having great nutritional value these psylliums have no side effects when used as horse feeds to prevent accumulation of sand or stones in animals. They are also used as thickening agents while manufacturing the tablets.
