Pinus

The problem with the list of Pinus species is not that an ancestral form could continue to exist after other species have been derived from it, that cladogenesis (and hybridization) rather than anagenesis is possible, but that the classification on the page is unsourced. I've no idea where it came from. References that I checked such as Krupkin, A.B.; Liston, A.; Strauss, S.H. (1996).
