Hi! i'm not sure if it's correct wikipedia etiquette to ask a question like this here, but I've seen you around the current tornado articles and wanted to ask a question. When do you guys consider a tornado suitable to be added to a table or counted as a confirmed tornado? Does it have to come from the SPC storm reports? @Wikiwillz: We will add some tornadoes to the table under an EF? designation if there is enough information for it be confirmed, but not rated. However, the general practice is that we do not add tornadoes into the table until (a) it has been confirmed on the DAT or (b) the NWS surveys with official ratings come out on the specific NWS forecast office's Twitter page or a PNS (Public Information Statement) from them. @ChessEric Hi! I have another question. When do you guys consider a tornado significant enough to have it's own section in an outbreak article, and when does it become significant enough for a standalone article on the tornado to be suitable? Wikiwillz (talk) 15:54, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

It depends on the situation. The general practice is that we make sections for EF2+ tornadoes that are (a) long-tracked, (b) causes numerous injuries or fatalities, (c) causes extremely heavy damage or (d) a combination of both. An article is used for extreme cases for when a section does not fully capture the full extent of the tornadoes impact (i.e.

2015 Rochelle–Fairdale, Illinois tornado, and 2011 Tuscaloosa–Birmingham tornado) or in some cases when strong/damaging tornadoes hit unusual places. (i.e. 2010 Bronx tornado, Manzanita tornado, and 2018 Port Orchard tornado) However, I will admit that I'm probably not the best person to ask about this question so I'd like a second opinion from TornadoLGS, United States Man, and/or TornadoInformation12. Wikiwillz, ChessEric hit the nail on the head. The other factor is the presence of a detailed damage summary. NWS Des Moines did not issue a detailed report of the EF4 in Iowa from March 5, so there wasn't enough information to make a section despite the fact it was a long-tracked, deadly EF4 affecting a decently populated area. Hey me again, I saw you posting a lot that you need help with NCDC reports.
