Copyright question

Hi - You posted a question at

WP:VPA which I assume is about Stage and Hierarchical Complexity of Tasks. The text seems to be copied from http://www.tiac.net/~commons/Scoring%20Manual.html, which lists a Dare Association copyright. If you hold the copyright to this material, or if you have permission to use this material under the terms of Wikipedia's license, please indicate this at talk:Stage and Hierarchical Complexity of Tasks. I can help with your question about adding categories, but first let's resolve the copyright status. -- Rick Block (talk) 19:29, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply

Copyright status of Behavioral momentum

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Behavioral momentum. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://b.lib.bioinfo.pl/pmid:16812775 in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Behavioral momentum saying you have done so. Michael Commons

Michael Commons is probably notable, but the article is almost certain to be deleted because it appears to be written as a copy of web page--see WP:Copyright. I have rewritten it myself to highlight the main element of notability. If you want to add further details, do. But write them in you own words, and see WP:AUTO. DGG (talk) 23:29, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do not see the web page you speak of. It if exists, please note which web page you believe the article is a copy of. Nikurasu (talk) 00:14, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am offering you advice on how to make a good article. What you wrote was either a copyright violation or written in a manner that would make it appear to be one, for it was written in the self-promotional manner of an academic web page. You may follow my advice, or not. I generally support academic articles when the person is notable. Why do you think I would have gone to the trouble of editing it otherwise? I could have left it alone, and someone else would have looked for a source, & deleted it if they found it. If they had not, they would have nominated it as a violation of WP:AUTO and WP:COI. I remind you also of WP:OWN. DGG (talk) 06:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was not yet an admin, or even at WP, when the change took place, so i thank Lucasbfr for telling me of this. it still might be a good idea to change it, since it strikes us newcomers as a little odd. DGG (talk) 00:31, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

. this was deleted before., with a slightly varying title, and reinserted in what appears to be an attempt to evade the clear requirements. This is altogether unacceptable, and if you insert any more copyright violations, the account will surely be be blocked. To avoid any appearance of any possible personal bias, i leave it for another administrator to do the actual deletions. DGG (talk) 06:29, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stop with the document dumps!

Sir, please stop dumping all of your published works into Wikipedia articles. First of all, this is likely a copyright violation, even if you are the copyright holder. Second, most of your material qualifies as

blocked
. Here's the official warning:

This is your last warning.
The next time you create an inappropriate page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.

Realkyhick 17:15, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user is new and confused about Wikipedia. I do not think that a final warning is an appropriate action here. Instead, I think you should work more closely with the user to help understand the mistakes they are making and to explain why what they are doing is inappropriate.

I have been in dialogue with the user, and actions are being taken and deletions are being made faster than the user can respond. Beyond that, they are being made faster than the user can understand what is going on.

In this case, I do not think that the subject matter of his articles are questionable. Most of the articles cited as "original research" are not: they are articles about scientific societies and fields of study, which are not occupied by one individual nor constitute an individual's research. The articles themselves have indeed violated Wikipedia rules though. However, these are all errors that can be corrected. Perhaps what is most necessary are further references of work in these fields and on these topics. In addition, copyrighted material can be removed, and articles can be rewritten to include the proper information (just excluding what was before questionable). These are just examples, of course. All necessary changes can be made.

I think that Wikipedia would lose entries on valid topics through continued action against this user.

I am currently working closely with the user in order to help them understand Wikipedia, create articles properly, and maintain conduct acceptable by the rules of Wikipedia. I hope that you will understand the need for this and also provide assistance to this user.

Nikurasu (talk) 23:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, but my assertion of original research comes from the fact that the material that was copied and pasted was from a book that was authored by someone whose name is very similar to this user's name. I'll leave this to you. Realkyhick 01:36, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. As I said before, I do indeed agree that the way the article made was incorrect. I also see why the material that was there would have made you think it was original research (especially if you did not know about the societies or topics in question). I will take care of it. I appreciate your kindness. Nikurasu (talk) 09:36, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
