Limerick Golf Club - Copyvio issues
Hi. And Welcome. The
I am the Webmaster for Limerick Golf Club and wrote all of the content for the site, so the text is entirely original. Is this acceptable?--Corcs999 (talk) 15:21, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- Not that I don't believe you, but do you have anything substantiating to back this up? I should also note that you might want to read WP:COI, and point out that - if you have created this article to either promote the club or the website - you should also read WP:ADVERT. Finally, if indeed you did write the original content (and again, I'm not challenging that you did/didn't), then you should probably read WP:GFDL which is the license under which Wikipedia content is governed. I suggest this because you might want to be sure that the terms of this license are compatible with what you expect for the content published on the LGC.ie website. Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 15:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)]
- If you send an email to [email protected] then you will get a reply from me, which would substantiate my claim (if you wish to go to that trouble). The intention of the article is not to promote or advertise anything, merely to provide information on the club. I will read the documents that you suggest. I can certainly change the text so that it reads differently from the Website, but I don't see the point in this. I would intend to add to both over time.--Corcs999 (talk) 15:46, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
RE: Crest. Are you really sure you want to release the Club Crest under CC3.0? You do know that that license means someone could (if they wanted to) "adapt" the crest into some other form? Surely a "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs License" would be better? Surely the club would want to retain more rights to such an important symbol than simply "Attrib"? Beyond that, do you own the rights to release the crest under such a license? Guliolopez (talk) 13:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Exclusive use of ash
Hi. I've changed the 'used exclusively' phrase again, in the common ash article. I believe you will find that 'used exclusively' means that it is used for nothing else. The current wording should indicate the intended meaning though. Cheers, Imc (talk) 22:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Nenagh & James Hayes
I saw you undid a revision to Nenagh re James Hayes. I am inclined to go further and completely delete the entry as I can find no record of him even the website doesn't appear to work. Could you have a look. --09:34, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Gramscis cousinTalkStalk
- The site works alright - complete with Fergal Sharkey music - seems to be some sort of self publisher (with a good number of books). The general rule of thumb should be, if a person does not have their own Wikipedia article, then they should not be included in such a list, so this entry should probably be removed. On another note, the Manual of Style recommends that lists should not be included in articles - if you want to take Nenagh to GA then the list would have to go. You could set it up as a seperate list on its own and refer to it from the Nenagh article.--Corcs999 (talk) 15:04, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:LimerickHurlingJersey.jpg
![File Copyright problem](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/cf/Copyright-problem.svg/64px-Copyright-problem.svg.png)
Thanks for uploading File:LimerickHurlingJersey.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{

- I have changed that to Public Domain as there is no copyright holder for this. I'm not sure if this is in order or not? If another tag is more appropriate, perhaps you could suggest one? (Corcs999 (talk) 21:33, 14 March 2011 (UTC))
Banagher
Thanks for your note on my homepage explaining your deletion of the information on townlands, parish and barony which I inserted into the Banagher article. I am doing research on 19th-century history in Ireland, and one often needs to know townlands, civil and CoI and Catholic parishes, and baronies, to work out what is going on where, as these were the normal way of describing location until quite recently. Such information is not easily available, and often requires a good deal of ferreting about in each particular case, such as reference to 19th-century maps. Wikipedia is the obvious source for people working in this area, who are not only specialists but family history researchers as well, and therefore large in number. I would say therefore that it is particularly important for this to be included, and I have been trying to insert it in the articles I come across which do not include it (it does not need to go in the introduction, though it would be nice to generate a common understanding in Irish geographical articles of where it should come). Banagher is particularly problematic, since it sits right on the boundary line between two townlands.
I recognise that you must have put a great deal of effort into the Banagher article and that former geographical references have not been part of your vision of how it should look, and I applaud the current state of the article, which is a notable achievement, but I would urge you to consult the wider interest of users and restore the information you have deleted in a form you regard as suitable. Diomedea Exulans (talk) 11:55, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the new material, which seems to do the trick (I have made a small change on the townlands so as fully to reflect my understanding of the position). The parishes are difficult because things change over time. Certainly at the time of the Griffiths Valuation (1855 for King's County) Reynagh was the name of the civil and CoI parishes (and it was presumably the pre-Reformation parish name); I'm not sure whether or how this could be acknowledged. Thanks for uploading File:Cuba Court.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on
