Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Rutul people a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is

"Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Hi! Regardless of the age of my current entry, I have a lot of experience with Wikipedia and I know very well how Wikipedia and the MediaWiki engine work. The renaming I've done is correct: The name (Rutulians) is taken from an authoritative source and is correct, as opposed to the current incorrect name. Rutul is the village in which these people live, Rutulia is their national state. Please restore my edits, or please do not interfere with me. If you don't mind I will revert my edits. Digitalberry (talk) 13:09, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted your edits because they are a cut and paste move, which is not desirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. If you actually read the message and have a lot of experience with Wikipedia then you know that you should move the page, not cut and paste. Nobody (talk) 13:23, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know that it is necessary to rename in this way. But the fact is that an article with a new name already existed. Therefore, the redirect ("move") had to do it manually. Thanks for your reply. Digitalberry (talk) 13:28, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No that's wrong @Digitalberry. The right way to do it would be to go to Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Uncontroversial_technical_requests and request it there. (Requested moves was listed in my first message...) Nobody (talk) 13:31, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The first message I sent you included: If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else.
So i ask of you to revert yourself and go do that. Nobody (talk) 13:35, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll do that. I didn't know it was mandatory in this case. Digitalberry (talk) 13:36, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But, here says that confirmed users can move articles themselves: "Confirmed users: Move the page yourself." Digitalberry (talk) 14:13, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You need to look at this, because you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons. Nobody (talk) 14:16, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK Digitalberry (talk) 14:18, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nobody If it's not hard for you, please check to see if the request is correct. Digitalberry (talk) 14:35, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
DO NOT perform cut and paste moves as you have done repeatedly. There is already an opposition to your technical request. Make a RM discussion instead and gather consensus to move. – robertsky (talk) 14:08, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
