Community restrictions regarding the Russio-Ukrainian war
Hi Effy Midwinter,
I have noticed that you have recently edited pages related to the Russo-Ukrainian War. Please note that, due to community consensus documented at
When in doubt, please assume that a topic is covered by this restriction. We call this "broadly construed". If this still leaves you unsure about whether a topic is affected by the restriction, feel free to ask on my talk page.
This is not widely announced to newcomers, so I'm not blaming or condemning you for not knowing about this. I'm also not saying that your editing has been problematic in any other way. Your edit may well have been perfectly fine in all other regards, yet may have been removed for this reason.
Additionally, Wikipedia's Arbitration Committee has recognized "Eastern Europe or the Balkans" as a generally contentious topic area. Don't worry: The restriction to extended-confirmed editors is about the Russo-Ukrainian War, not the entirety of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. The box below contains standardized advice for everyone.
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in Eastern Europe or the Balkans. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called

This may be confusing, so I'll attempt to summarize it:
- Only WP:GS/RUSUKR.
- All edits about Eastern Europe and the Balkans, by all users, need to be done with extra care.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if there are any questions.
Best regards,

- To be clear, I made a comment on a nomination at ITN/C. There is absolutely no indication whatsoever on that page that any discussions are off-limits to any users. To the best of my knowledge, this kind of restriction has never been enforced at ITN/C before. This is absurd. Effy Midwinter (talk) 07:52, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- I do know for a fact that the extended confirmed thing never was enforced at ITN. Because i have commented on I/P nominations several times over the years, and i have always edited as an IP, never once even made a test account. Once someone, a pov pusher with agenda, even mentioned the EC to slant numbers their way. Was by the letter wiki lawyering. And got resoundly ingnored by every admin who saw. So there certainly is practical precedent for not enforcing the EC at ITN. At AN there is a dicussion regarding the topic as well. But interest in it is minimal. I really don't care either way, i just found the way this went highly unpleasant. Have a good day anyway. 91.96.24.241 (talk) 13:16, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
