Border war

The border war would have never ended had Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a peace deal. You're claiming a victory in which you lost more troops, you didn't see a regime change and needed to end a war that was decided and disputed in a court room. Also, Eritrea didn't win politcally, they lost much of their claims, except the flash point town and probably the most important town of Badme, which was declaired as an Eritrean town. The border war is just like the Iraq and Iran war, they both claimed victory, despite only Iran penetrating deep and the war was declaired a stalemate. The bottom line is, Ethiopia and Eritrea would have kept fighting had Ethiopia did not decide for a peace deal to end the war. Otherwise, you can not claim victory if you need a peace deal and a court room to talk about a town in which you already claimed you've won.

Also, Eritrean government's claim and the opposition's claim of 19,000 Eritrean troops killed in the border war is a soild fact. They have names and date of death to prove it. What you and another person claimed on here is not final and binding. You're quoting a guess over actual facts and a guess is as good as wrong.

A war doesn't have to cause a change of government for one to have one and the other lost. Look at the

The American government didn't have a claim to any of the territories that it conquered during the First Gulf War, so there was no reason to go to court over that issue. The Iran-Iraq war is also incomparable, as neither side was able to breach the defense of the other at the end of the war. Those that did occur were temporary, and in the end, territory wasn't changing hands at all. In the Eritrean-Ethiopian war, however, the war was ended by the breach of Eritrean lines by the Ethiopian military. It couldn't be called a stalemate. And if you believe that most reporters describe it as a stalemate, then you must provide sources. There are plenty of sources that say it was an Ethiopian victory, and Ethiopia's victory declarations were not rejected that I know of. [1][2]. —
