GERS and Stuyvesant

Gersracing (talk) 21:24, 18 March 2008 (UTC)==Gers and Stuyvesant== I left your addition of Robert Gerson to List of Stuyvesant High School people the second time, but you need to add a reference that supports both Gerson's notability and his connection to Stuyvesant. RossPatterson (talk) 00:47, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just removed this entry. If you come up with a reference, please feel free to re-add it. RossPatterson (talk) 23:58, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since you've added it back, please now add a verifiable reference as noted above last month. Thanks! RossPatterson (talk) 02:59, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ross Patterson: I hope this entry doesn't fall on deaf ears. Please help me solve the delema I seem to be having with my entry. After all, "our strong band can ne'er be broken'. Couldn't you possibly check 'The Indicator' for my name and picture in the graduation class of '65. My name Robert Gerson and photo are also listed with the Pegleg track team of that year. I recorded with Jimi Hendrix in 1970 on 'The Cry Of Love' album under the name of GERS and the album, went Gold and was on three different record labels. (Warner Bros., Polydor, and Track Records)...................................................................................................................................................................

I'd love to, but it's a four hour drive to the nearest collection of Indicators. If you had that interesting a career, you must have been mentioned in at least one music history/criticism/whatever book or article. References don't need to be on the web, they just need to be identifiable and verifiable. RossPatterson (talk) 01:05, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ross: Hopefully you received a copy of the 1)1965 Indicator senior class. 2)Jimi Hendrix album 'The Cry of Love' with the credits Gers (Harmonica). 3)Letter from Hohner Harmonica c/o the American Embassey in London England awaiting new Jimi Hendrix Album and asking Gers for pictures of himself playing. 4)Article in Rolling Stone about Gers' band 'Privilege'. 5)Picture of GERS' credits on the Gold Jimi Hendrix Album 'Cry of Love'.

It was the first posthumous Hendrix album release. Hendrix' chief engineer Eddie Kramer & his drummer Mitch Mitchell were the team that selected songs from studio session tapes recorded before Hendrix' death in September 1970 and created Jimi Hendrix' final mainstream studio album. This LP when teamed up with the the 'Rainbow Bridge' (bogus)"soundtrack" LP (released separately, seven months later, for contractual reasons) would comprise the bulk of the most complete tracks, that Hendrix was intending to release on his latest (double) LP. All songs on the album were written by Hendrix and were all new material, although 'My Friend' was from 1968 and an unlikely choice. Jimi's drummer Mitch Mitchell & engineer Eddie Kramer's involvement gave the album credibility, and it was well received by fans and critics alike. The album shot to number three on Billboard's album chart (USA), number two (UK) and is regarded as the best of the posthumous Hendrix albums released. The song "Freedom" (backed with "Angel") was released in USA as a single, but only reached number 59 in 1971. In the UK Angel was the single backed with Night Bird Flying, but it didn't dent the charts. The song "My Friend" was recorded during the early stages of the Electric Ladyland sessions in 1968. It combines a humorously delivered, but ultimately serious song about loneliness. It features a dubbed background of Hendrix & friends creating a bar or nightclub atmosphere. This dubbed audience idea ended up being used for the coda to 'Voodoo Chile" on Electric Ladyland. This dubbed on live audience idea wasn't new to Jimi, having already been used on his recordings with 'Curtis Knight and the Squires'/'Love Lights' in late 1965/early 1966. 'Gers' plays harp on 'My Friend'. Personnel • Jimi Hendrix (vocals, electric guitar, electric bass) • Gers (harmonica) • Buzzy Linhart (vibraphone) • Billy Cox (electric bass) • Noel Redding (electric bass) • Mitch Mitchell (drums) • Buddy Miles (drums, background vocals) • Steve Winwood (background vocals) • Chris Wood (background vocals) • The Ghetto Fighters (background vocals) • Emeretta Marks (background vocals) • Stephen Stills (piano)[reply]

I have warned you several times about your vandalism (ie removing properly sourced and referenced work and replacing it with blatant, unsourced and un=referenced POV)to the Cry of Love page. I had to do this in the history section on Cry of Love, and also on the discussion page as your talk page was unavailable, you've not replied to any of these and have actually removed my attempts to talk to you from the discussion page. So I've had to resort to reporting you for vandalism.Jameselmo (talk) 20:11, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Identity of "Gers" on Cry of Love

What is your problem with having a surname? Why has nobody heard of you? Why is there no mention of you anywhere apart from in your own puff? Why are you not credited as the harmonica player by "Experience Hendrix inc." Why is the only mention of this name (which could come from anywhere and be claimed by anyone ie YOU) in connection with Hendrix (or anyone else) on this one LP sleeve from 38 years ago, and never mentioned since? Why do you write a load of exaggerated nonsense about your supposed connection to Hendrix (above: "recorded several albums with Jimi")? Even if it was you, this is ONE TRACK later discarded by Hendrix and not included by him on his Electric Ladyland LP and never mentioned by him again. Anyone can claim royalties, two people in contention can claim royalties for writing the same song simultaneously with BMI or whoever. Billy Cox actually played on two Hendrix Lp's but recieved no royalties as he was a hired hand. It's not difficult to fake up a letter, why is it only dated 2006 when the LP was released in 1971?. You have (allegedly) had two car crashes - so what? Jameselmo (talk) 19:09, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In 1965-1966 I was playing music in Greenwich Village clubs Café Wha?, Nite Owl Café, Café Au Go Go, Village Gate etc. Then in 1967-68 I moved to being in the House Band of the “Village Theater” (Fillmore East). I would jam at ‘The Scene’ and always had a good time. In early ‘68 I got a call from Bunny Jones a music manager from the Brill Building who said Jimi wanted me to come up the ‘Scene’ there he asked me if like to play harp on some Blues cuts. So after the Scene we went to Sound Center where we recorded ‘My Friend’. In late 1970 after Jimi had passed away I got a phone call from Mitch Mitchell saying he and Eddie Kramer found my name on the Box of a tape they were planning to use and could I come over to Electric Lady Studios and give it a listen. I showed up with Dale Frank my lead guitarist who was good friends with Mitch. Sure enough it was ‘My Friend’ that I had recorded with Jimi 2 years before I had given all of my information back then to Bob Levine who was in Jimi’s front office (Michael Jeffery) Bob had some how squeezed my legal name out of me and SSN for Warner Bros.(Reprise). My guitarist and I were invited by Mitch to England in Dec. 1970 to play music. We flew over with Eric Barrett (Jimi’s Road manager) and were met at Heathrow by Gerry Stickells (Touring manager) who took us to Mitch’s house in Sussex. We spent Christmas with Mitch which is why I received my letter from Hohner at the American Embassy. The Gold Album was okayed for by Warner Bros. (Reprise). Yes the AFM & AFTRA also had my legal name (Robert Gerson) and SSN. this was submitted to them at the time of the recording, in their records from 40 years ago.Gersracing (talk) 01:59, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Gersracing (talk) 02:03, 14 December 2009 (UTC) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Letter_to_GERS_American_Embassy_London_England_from_Hohner_Harmonica%27s_1971.jpgGersracing (talk) 00:03, 11 December 2009 (UTC)GERSRACING[reply]
