This is an excellent picture (much appreciated!), but from the pattern of the plumage I strongly suspect this is a fledgling

Gray Catbird. (Compare other pictures we have: File:Gray Catbird, juvenile.jpg vs. File:Mockingbird Chick000.jpg.) Would you mind if I rename the file appropriately and move it to the Northern Mockingbird article? Fran Rogers 17:20, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply

Good eye! That is exactly what it is. Feel free to rename and move it. Gut Monk (talk) 20:29, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! Thank you for submitting a nomination to

featured picture candidates. I have closed the nomination as withdrawn per your request. I'd like to enourage you to continue to participate; we can always use more people to help evaluate and nominate pictures for featured status. If you haven't seen the answer to your question at the nomination page: your signature with time stamp can be produced with four tildes: ~~~~. Three tildes produces only your signature (with no time stamp), and five tildes produces only a time stamp. If you have any further questions or comments, feel free leave a note on my talk page. Hope to see you around! Jujutacular T · C 03:23, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply

Curiosity

Hallo, :) What exactly is female intellectualism, and how is it different from intellectualism generally, and how do you "support" it? I was just reading your user page and it seemed an odd thing to say. Is it tongue-in-cheek?

talk 17:59, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply

Guten tag. It is a belief system. I think that the only way you can get equality between guys and girls, or at least get close to it, is to make smart girls as desirable as pretty girls. You support it by recognizing that there are successful people in society who are successful mostly because they are attractive—I like to highlight Sarah Palin as a great example of this—and talking about their success to other people (kind of populate the idea that success based purely on attractiveness is unjust to the rest of us.) Further, when I become a dad one day, I want to help make my girls smart. Another way you can support it is by letting young girls know that you value their intelligence.
Why support female intellectualism and not intellectualism in general? Well, you make a good point and I kind-of support intellectualism in general, but I think that (more often than guys) usually girls' level of success is throttled by attractiveness. So I support female intellectualism to help drive out that inequality in our current society. Really, society will get way more fun when smart girls are desired as much as pretty girls. Gut Monk (talk) 20:50, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's very interesting, thank you. I see some flaws in your reasoning/thinking/approach, but overall it's a positive point of view. I won't criticise or comment on your belief system further than that, I won't be rude, but thank you very much for sharing! Makes a change for a male to even realise that girls have brains, nonetheless champion their intellectualism, :)

I can feel the flaws myself. I'm a better conversationalist than a writer. If you would like to share them, I'd be delighted to hear them. Gut Monk (talk) 21:27, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And I am a better writer than conversationalist! But sure, we can talk about it, that would be cool. You can email me with your chat/voice client preference if you'd like. (P.S. Sorry for the reply delay, the sun goes down here first.)

Hey; this, combined with my reaction to your last nomination, may make me look like a really unpleasant person. I hope you don't take it personally- honestly, I'm glad to have someone new around FPC! The majority of my nominations fail as well; it's just a matter of getting used to what works and what doesn't, in a way. Feel free to drop a line on my talk page if I can help with anything. Could you please expand on your reasoning here? We frequently promote images that illustrate only the respective genus article, as there is not yet an article on the species (or the precise species cannot be identified). I can't see what EV problem there is. J Milburn (talk) 21:25, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is not already a FP, and this is not how you close a FPC. You've probably ruined its chances now; it won't receive the necessary attention. I've reverted your edits. J Milburn (talk) 17:04, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

zugzwang

I think you asked about making a subsection for zugzwang in game theory. This was discussed a year or two ago. All we had on zugzwang in game theory was that one paragraph (which is in the introduction), so we decided to not make it a subsection. If it could be expanded, then it could be a subsection or even its own article, say zugzwang (game theory). Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 05:01, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
