Summary: We lead with the exciting news that we are now recognised as Wikimedia UK by the Wikimedia Foundation. This means that we can shortly open a bank account and approve membership applications. Planning is also underway for a new website and for the upcoming Annual General Meeting. Meanwhile, we continue to support Wikipedia Loves Art, which will launch on 1st February and the bid to hold Wikimania 2010 in Oxford, and bring news of recent and upcoming meet-ups.

The AGM included numerous speakers talking about a wide range of topics, ranging from collaboration with the BBC to reaching out around the world with Wikipedia on a DVD! Can you help me please? On the discussion page of the list of political parties you say that pretty much everyone is agreed that "The electoral register is a reliable source (obviously), and any party listed on it gets an entry on this page" I have tried untill i am blue in the face to get someone else to add Best of a Bad Bunch to the list of parties. Partly because I did not want to be charged with self promotion and partly because i dont really know what i am doing. Absolutely no one offered to help. In desperation I tried to edit it myself. A day later my edit had been undone by someone that clearly has not read the discussion page on the grounds of notability and self promotion. I have asked for help on the discussions page weeks ago..... not a peep. I have tried to find help on freenet chat and no one has the guts to undo the deletion because of the numnber of stupid barnstars the deleter has got on his user page. I am about at the point now where i am going to do that myself and get involved in a do/undo war that i can not possibly win and all i am trying to do is update an out of date list. Hi Andylear. Sorry for the delay - I'm not on wikipedia that much these days.

In the discussion you're referring to, at Talk:List of political parties in the United Kingdom#Minor parties - links?, I said that I thought an entry in the electoral register was enough to get listed on that page. I no longer think that's true, since all one has to do to get added to the electoral register is send a few quid to the electoral commission. I think to meet Wikipedia's notability criteria, you'd have to find at least one other third-party source as well. --HughCharlesParker (talk - contribs) 10:59, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
