Hi, a little less formally. I see you are very new to editing, so I'd like to welcome you, and explain why I've reverted your edit with a formal warning. The matter of possible racism in literature is quite a serious topic, and it needs to be handled carefully, accurately, and traceably, with very full citations. This has been done in the Tolkien article: every bit of information, and especially every claim or counter-claim, is scrupulously cited to a reliable source. In such a setting, it is not acceptable for editors to make changes or deletions, especially as in this case against consensus, without clearly at least explaining the reason in an edit comment. In this case, the matter has already been debated, so no change should be made without obtaining consensus by polite discussion on the talk page. Attempting to force through a change without consensus, discussion, or even a brief note of the reason for an edit, is wholly unacceptable here on Wikipedia. I do hope this is clear, and look forward to hearing your opinion, rationally set out. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:54, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. I did not intend to vandalize. 72.48.6.16 (talk) 15:09, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
