The BBC Radio 4 website that the article links to says "Mr." as do various reviews and blogs (New Statesman 9 April 2007, Daily Mail 30 March 2007, Medical Humanities blog 30 March 2007, The Stage 4th April 2007). However, the Marks & Gran website marksandgran.com says "Mrs." and I think one has to assume that's authoritative, so please accept my apologies. It's always possible someone at the BBC made a mistake when listing it in the Radio Times. NickS (talk) 14:36, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Open Government License

James,

Are all MoD works under the OGL?, and can you provide evidence that'll satisfy some people on Commons, an email to OTRS or a public webpage?

A lot of photos by this and other agencies (including some you uploaded) have been deleted since TNA's website isn't crystal clear, and there's currently this deletion request. —innotata 15:07, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Help....

Hey Jdforrester. Thanks for the help. I was wondering if you didn't mind me poking you about what you did, and how you did it, if I need to ask? As you can imagine, those of us in the UK politics bit of Wikipedia have a LOT of these to replicate so I'd like to know how to learn! doktorb wordsdeeds 14:57, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

@Doktorbuk: No problem; I'm afraid I couldn't work out what was causing the issue at the time - it seemed to be an issue with how the parameters were defined, and editing the parameters fixed it - but (with my other hat) I'll be looking into this and making VisualEditor better. Sorry! James F. (talk) 15:44, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Hey no problem User:Jdforrester, I'm not one of the "pitchfork brigade" :). There's so many templates with so many rules, it's no surprise that there's issues and problems. I started to "get" what was wrong but it just wasn't quite working for me. Hopefully no MP will fall under a bus or the like in the next few months so we can work on what's wrong without an election deadline coming :) Take care, doktorb wordsdeeds 19:18, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

St Paul's School, London

Yo JD, is it true you is like really well educated? Because I read a lot about St Paul's School, London and it sounds like super clever and I would never have a chance to ever step foot in the place, but I thought it would be cool to at least meet an Old Pauline one day because kid's from the area that I grew up in very rarely come into contact with people from that kind of background. Anyway it's funny how the school looks ugly from the outside but in fact contains so many geniuses who I assume to be much less snobby than Eton and Harrow for example. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.152.71.113 (talk) 15:26, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Oversight discussion

WP:OUTING has a rather long list of information considered personal, none of which I linked to: "legal name, date of birth, identification numbers, home or workplace address, job title and work organisation, telephone number, email address, or other contact information". If it is intended to include "any alternate accounts on any other web site", it would be good if that were added, as that is rather more common than many of the other entries, don't you agree? --GRuban (talk
) 20:00, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

You also probably want to oversight a link in [[3]]; unlike my post, that does link directly to something giving names and places of study. --GRuban (talk) 00:05, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
So? It's been a while. What is the verdict? What part of my post was in violation of
WP:OUTING? --GRuban (talk
) 13:52, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but as it seems you're not active, I think I will need to ask ) 13:45, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
@GRuban: Hey, sorry I didn't see your messages. Did you get a response to your satisfaction? James F. (talk) 16:10, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
No.
WP:ANI immediately and told me, in email, to mail functionaries-en. But didn't answer my question. Functionaries-en (in the person of User:Risker) acknowledged receiving my email, but didn't actually answer my question either. So it's been three weeks of asking you and a bit under a week of asking someone else. :-( --GRuban (talk
) 15:28, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Got a response from
WP:OUTING, in what way? Is linking to any information about any user a violation? If so, can WP:OUTING say that, instead of saying "personal information" and giving a list, implying that some non-personal information is all right to link to? --GRuban (talk
) 14:21, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Check your email shortly. A conclusive email should be incoming in the next hour or so, I've been in the midst of moving. (Although do feel free to provide your own rationale James) NativeForeigner Talk 17:02, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Conclusive email apparently is, yes, it is intended to include "any alternate accounts on any other web site". Will wait for confirmation, then will change

NZL/NZL-cats Templates

Thank you for adding MNZGS to the NZL [Post-nominals template]. Could you

  1. Update the NZL-cats template and
  2. Documentation for both templates?
  3. Are there any other types of membership that need to be added such as Fellow of the society? (I'm assuming FRGS is a fellow of the (UK based) Royal Geographical Society and not the NZGS).

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Sinesurfer (talkcontribs) 18:57, 1 January 2015‎ (UTC)

@Sinesurfer: Hey there. I'm afraid I'm not a complete expert on this system (I just use it), and yeah, it really does need some documentation. I'll try to write something up. Ultimately it's somewhat flawed because as in this case people can get PNLs from multiple Commonwealth countries, like FRGS alongside other, domestic institutions. Maybe I should try to change it to "inherit" from the UK if it doesn't find it locally? Could be tricky… James F. (talk) 09:36, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi. Multiple country post-noms can be rendered by using the post-noms template multiple times for each country. The template was originally written by a Canadian gent so when the country parameter is not defined the template defaults to Canada (which is of course ok). If you ever find post-noms OM render as The Order of Manitoba instead of The Order Merit, this is why. Changing the default behaviour now would be problematic where Canadian post-noms use the same index as the UK template but point to different awards/honours etc. The country parameter would need to be added to every use of conflicting post-noms in the CAN/CAN-cats templates.
The professional societies can be confusing, the templates for the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand accommodate their local society and the UK society (for the different professions).
