Hi my IP address was blocked by user JamesBWatson because he claims I vandalised his page on the most successful English Football clubs on Wiki.

I did not.

I did edit this page because of an omission to his stats table for most successful English football clubs.

In 1986 Liverpool FC won the English Super Cup (an official English FA/Football League endorsed competition) for top flight English Clubs which Liverpool FC won, but this is not included in JamesBWatson's stats table.

It is included on the official liverpool FC website HONOURS LIST as an official English (Domestic) competition and so shoud be included in the table. (SEE BELOW)

Hoping this can be resolved amicably.

Best Wishes,

I hope this can be resolved amicably too, and I apologise if I have inconvenienced you unfairly. However, at the moment I can't help, because I don't know what block you are referring to. Can you give more precise details? I do remember that I recently came across something that I thought was unacceptable on this subject, but trying to find the right block in the block log, without knowing what IP I am looking for, is like looking for a needle in a haystack, and searching through my last 2000 edits for edits to pages including "football" produces just two hits, neither of which is at all relevant. (Incidentally, it is not my page on the subject at all. I rarely touch anything on Wikipedia to do with football, and when I do it is almost always a response to a request from some other editor for administrative action when they think there is a problem.)

Hi JamesBWatson, thanks for your prompt reply. Authorship of the' most successful English Football Club page' on Wiki is attributed to you according to the message I received this morning. I have queried this. When I get a reply, I will get back to you. Cheers, JoeRob55 — Preceding unsigned comment added by JoeR55 (talkcontribs) 18:56, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give me the exact title of the article? I can't find anything like "most successful English Football Club". (

Hi James, this is the message I received (*below) regarding this Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_records_in_England#Most_successful_clubs_overall_.281871_.E2.80.93_present.29

IP address (###.###.###.###) was blocked by JamesBWatson, who gave the reason Vandalism. Cheers, BTW, Is it OK for me to give this IP ddress out on a public forum?

Thanks, that makes it much clearer. First of all, even if that was the article you were trying to edit when you got the message, it doesn't necessarily mean that that was the page that was vandalised: the same IP address may have been used by a different user to edit a completely different page. In fact that IP has certainly not edited that page since December 2008 (I haven't checked further back). That IP address has been the source of vast amounts of vandalism on many articles over several years, and has been blocked 13 times, but has returned to vandalism after each block has expired. It may well be a lot of different people, with the IP address continually being reassigned to different users. It is likely that you were caught in an "autoblock", which means that you were prevented from editing because you were using the same IP address that had been blocked because of vandalism by other users. If so, the autoblock is no longer affecting you, as far as I can see, but if it happens again then follow the instructions in the block message for requesting an unblock, and ask for "IP block exemption". If, however, the problem doesn't come back, then just forget about it and carry on editing from this account.
Just one more point. It probably does no harm to publish your IP address, but it may be better not to for privacy reasons, so I will remove it from my talk page.

I wasn't thinking clearly when I wrote that: it wasn't actually an autoblock as such, but it doesn't make much difference.
