I can understand the "Ehmad" pronouciation. I know the actual Urdu pronouciation does vary, I would still guess more using the "Ah" begining. It would be wise to include both pronouciations. John Cengiz talk 09:29, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No! The actual pronunciation does NOT vary. Where it varies, it is usually due to non-native speakers of Urdu speaking it in their own manner of pronunciation, as it occurs in Pakistan, where regional pronunciations and accents influence the actual Urdu pronunciation. One reason is that native Urdu speakers form just 7% of the population and all the rest, though many of which can understand and speak fluently, are not native speakers. They transform the actual pronunciation to suit themselves. I think that is what you mean when you say that the Urdu pronunciation varies. Literary circles contend that ehmad is the ONLY correct pronunciation in Urdu. So the question of inclusion of the aah- pronunciation should not arise. By the way, the being-discussed spelling is not a romanisation. It is done using IPA, where exact phonemes are required. If it were a romanisation, we would still read ah- as eh- without even being aware of the change of vowel (many people consider it a merely a changed accent from the Arabic one to be responsible for a different sound instead of a change in vowel), unless told. Here, the case is different, so I think that the ah- one is not preferable. Regards.
