General comments

Women in Red is not just set up for experienced editors. Many of our members joined the project as newbies and apparently found our approach useful and encouraging. We also monitor carefully the articles created by new users and we actively encourage them to participate in the project. As a result, several new Wikipedians join the project each month.

I am pleased to see that the UNESCO event will already involve 100 people. I'm not too sure how they will be accommodated but if they are to gain practical experience of editing, Victuallers may be able to offer some advice on the basis of his Role Models editathon last yeas. As for the "100s of partner organizations", it would be useful to know who they are and where they are located.--Ipigott (talk) 08:44, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New user space on WiR

For me, new user means new WiR member. All new users should register on our main page. I carefully monitor all additions, usually every day. I try to offer them suitable advice on their talk pages. Maybe in addition to the normal "welcome", a one-page summary of useful hints could also be made available.--Ipigott (talk) 08:49, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suggesting women who deserve an article

There is one major problem with simply citing the names of women who deserve articles. Most of those identified by newcomers are living people who do not yet have sufficient secondary coverage or who are currently attached to the institution or company arranging the editathon. Organizers of editathons can help to convey the importance of keeping lists to women covered by valid secondary sources and avoiding those who currently have a role in the body organizing the editathon. Valid names can then be added to the redlist for the editathon and/or added to pertinent WiR crowd-based redlists, preferably with at least one valid source (e.g. a URL). If the Form Wizard approach is used, it should first be implemented for the editathon rather than on WiR. If it works successfully, it could later be listed as an option somewhere on WiR.--Ipigott (talk) 10:40, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Making WiR redlists more prominent

There could indeed be improvements here. The main list of redlinks is currently accessible on the WiR main project page by clicking on "Worklists". This turns up lists of red links for the priorities of the month as well as those by focus ara, occupation, nationality, etc. Perhaps the icon should simply be changed from "Worklists" to "Redlists" or "Missing articles". (I'm not too sure where the view module link is located but it is true that the Women in Red template has a show option for Redlinks. This was introduced by Dr. Blofeld in connection with the World Contest. If this is a problem for new users, perhaps the full list of redlinks should be displayed from the start.--Ipigott (talk) 10:50, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
