New York, Kingston and Syracuse Railroad
I corrected the spelling of "Massachusetts", as the edit history shows. 158.143.162.119 10:06, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Catskill Mountain Railroad
Sorry about that. I was going through the Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and sometimes there is a lot of articles in there. If I have any doubt about them I won't delete them. I had a quick look yesterday and saw that Catskill Mountain Railroad was referred to in the Ulster and Delaware Railroad#Ulster and Delaware Railroad section (3rd paragraph) and thought a redirect was a good idea. Looking at what you wrote on my page plus what's at Talk:Catskill Mountain Railroad it might be a good idea to change it to a disambiguation. Cheers. Wallkill Valley Railroad
Nice article. Could it say something about the fact that the line from Walden south is still in use as a freight spur by Norfolk Southern (connecting to the main line at the Campbell Hall Metro-North station)? Daniel Case 03:09, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

It is not a work of the federal government. It is a work of the New York City government and thus copyrighted (Someone else made the same mistake a couple of months ago). Daniel Case 04:22, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

FAC references
Honestly, I don't know how to format references or footnotes, I only know to check FACs for whether or not they're there. However, several other users, such as Bishonen and Ta bu shi da yu have written FAs with such refs and notes, and should be able to help you. I'm sorry I personally can't be of more help, RyanGerbil10 (Drop on in!) 04:39, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm...
Errr...yeah. How do I list the references in different areas but make it so that it doesn't show up as there being 15 references when there are only 4? Kschwerdt514 04:45, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hmmm... yep. If you simply use the <ref></ref>tags, as you've done, you'll get a new footnote every time. To only list each reference once, copy the way the notes are done in S. A. Andree's Arctic balloon expedition of 1897. But I'm in a minority.) Bishonen | talk 05:52, 14 June 2006 (UTC).]
- Bish asked me to comment. I will show you the text in <nowiki> tags, then show the output.
Add the ref tags like this <ref name="first">First reference</ref> and this <ref name="second">Second reference</ref>. Then add the <references/> tag in a "References" section at the bottom. And to use a reference a second time, just add a short invocation like this.<ref name="second"/> <references/>
Add the ref tags like this [1] and this [2]. Then add the <references/> tag in a "References" section at the bottom. And to use a reference a second time, just add a short invocation like this.[2]
- Ta da! HTH. Which article are we talking about? There are some shorter examples around too, such as Virgo Stellar Stream.-- ALoan (Talk) 10:13, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

A brief mention early wouldn't hurt because then readers wouldn't wait so long to be able to put it in a historical setting. Rlevse 20:31, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I read the article, noticed what you where doing with it, and it was obvious that you deserved that barnstar. I am just happy that you like it. -- Karl Meier 07:30, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
FACs
Yes. Many FAcs missed the first time around. As we said over there, that article needs to go to peer review first. I'd fix the problems everyone pointed out first, though. Daniel Case 13:41, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Good. But don't take it right back. Go to peer review first. And then wait a little while before submitting for featured status again ... some people get really upset about nominees that come back to FAC awful fast. Daniel Case 02:26, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I'll look for it when it does.
Actually, we should nearly be done with reservoirs in the Catskills soon ... seems like between you and me we got 'em all except Cannonsville. Good thing I've been creating some for the Croton watershed.
Also, I'm not sure "Catskill watershed" and "Delaware watershed" are the best names for those categories. They're too vague ... I could click on the latter expecting to find the Delaware's tributaries. Not all of us are NYCDEP employees for whom they need no explanation. Maybe something incorporating a reference to the city? (Let's agree on something before taking it to CFD). Daniel Case 03:59, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, that does reflect DEP's administrative divisions better (the same staff works on all further upstate reservoirs regardless of watershed ... I've always thought that was a meaningless division anyway). But I still think the category name needs to ... aah, I'll just let that one go for now.
You do need to nominate the old categories for deletion, though, because there's no sense in keeping them if they're going to stay empty. See
Template:User birder
Hi Kschwerdt - curious why you changed the pic in this? - when I made the template I chose the Ruddy Turnstone pic carefully, because it is a species which occurs on every continent, and so is familiar to birders throughout the world, not just in one small area. Hope you won't mind that I'm putting it backĀ ;-) - MPF 10:58, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Arctic Tern - yeah, sure, go ahead! There's one here if you like it (one of my picsĀ ;-) - MPF 20:00, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Wikicommons-Wikipedia
Hi again - it's very easy, you just type the name of the image in the usual formatting, and that looks for it automatically on commons, so [[Image:Pic-name-at-commons.jpg|thumb|Caption]] will do it for you. The only exception is for placing pics in taxoboxes, where you need to chop off "Image:" (but you have to do that with local-uploaded pics too). The whole thing about commons is so that its pics can be added to every wikipedia - English, German, Swedish, Swahili, you-name-it; a pic uploaded on English wiki can only be used on English wiki, not on any others. - MPF 08:49, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

NYC water system
Good job, good job. I'd give you a barnstar but ... I just did!
Seriously, this is great. In two weeks we've (ahem) covered ground that I was taking months to do alone (because I would only create reservoir articles when I had pictures to go with them ... now I'll have to go up to the Catskills this weekend and take some more!)
What we need now, as you suggested, is articles on the aqueducts (there are many locations near me where a good pic of the Catskill Aqueduct is possible) and the Shandaken Tunnel. I'd also like to do (this will take some skill) a master navigation template for all the water system-related articles.
And, of course, a master article on the
- Actually, that shouldn't be capitalized as it is not a formal name ... New York City water supply system is just fine. Daniel Case 23:37, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Meantime, too, someone should find the time or way to make a free version of the city's watershed map. I suppose it should be me but I need to get better at making SVGs. Daniel Case 20:23, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Welll ... I had been thinking of going up with my son and hiking Vly Mountain, which has a great spot at one corner of the summit ridge where you have a view of Schoharie Reservoir like no other. Of course, good vistas of the reservoirs from the mountains are actually kind of rare. And I have a lot of other mountain-based pictures in the Catskills I'd like to take, anyway. I like it! I might consider making the template colors blue and green after the NYCDEP logo. But that's exactly the sort of thing I had envisioned. Thanks for rolling up your sleeves.

Chichester
Chichester is a hamlet, not a village (it has never been incorporated to the best of my knowledge.
I also don't think Phoenicia is a village, whatever the road signs say (like Pine Hill, it may once have been but dissolved itself). Daniel Case 04:43, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Would it be okay for me to join the Trains project you (along with many others) are a member of? I have added my name, etc.. to the list but am unsure if I am permitted to do so. If I do join I could write about Glasgow and Scottish railways, if articles are needed. Please reply soon.
