The version Schrecker for Schreker's father's name is not in the reference DB (which has Schrekker) but in the next one, - please change that also. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:55, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Gerda: I am a member of the Schrecker family and a relative of Franz Schreker (Balázs M. Mezei, professor of philosophy). We had a big family reunion last week at the Schrecker Castle in Legénd, Hungary, where we determined the exact relationship between our generation and Franz Schreker. He is my great-great-nephew (my great-grandfather's nephew). The original form of the name was always Schrecker (from the German Schrecke, grasshopper [and not fear, but Schreck has that meaning too]). The same goes for the other forms: Franz's father was Schrecker Ignác Ferenc, i.e. the Hungarian form, because the family was already half Hungarian-speaking. It was a typo or a misreading to have "Furencz" and "Ignacz" (although "cz" was widely used for "c" in those days). All this can be checked out at geni.com, where other members of the Schrecker family regularly contribute to the pages and files about the members of the family.
