Sort-of re. VPP thread,

  • As your comment re. it turning into an argument instead of discussion came directly under my own posting, I wanted to check if you considered my own posting to be argumentative—I certainly did not intend it to be so. Often there is a fine line between 'discussion' and 'argument'.
  • Re. your suggestion that people kinda 'vote' there; I actually appreciate and approve your trying to keep things on track; in general, that is a very productive idea, so please do not feel in any way 'admonished' that others pointed you at
    'crats
to evaluate the weight of the points made rather than merely counting up numbers.
It is quite a difficult, and indeed disputed concept - and that is all I really wanted to explain to you, a little more.
  • When you do ask that people support or oppose though, please try to make it ultra-clear what you are asking them to support/oppose. In that specific case, I didn't quite know what you meant by If you're FOR the PM system - not sure if PM means IM, or if you meant the idea of Wikipedia storing and maintaining a web-based mail client, or what; hence hard to know if I support or opposed it.
  • One very minor side-point and suggestion: your sig there was: Mr. Upper School - all three parts link to the same place, your user page, and generally it is more convenient for others if part of it points to your user talk page - it makes it easier to leave you messages. Some choose to link to their contribs too, or email, or whatever, but that is entirely optional. Also, it helps if the name in your sig matches your actual username, again to avoid confusion. So I'd humbly suggest something along the lines of: Mr. High School student or something like that. Notice that here, on your user talk page, the link to your user talk page will show in bold instead of as a link; it wouldn't on other pages.
Please note, that is just a suggestion, nothing more.

It's great to see someone so keen to get involved in discussions, and I'm glad you seem to listen to constructive feedback,

Best,  Chzz  ►  10:05, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
