8 articles may discuss this alternative tally, but the actual sources don't use them as their primary medal tally. For example, Xinhuanet still uses either the IOC gold medal sort, while American sources like CNN/SI and the LA Times still adhere to a total medal count. They're op-ed pieces at best and none of them agree on a common methodology for sorting data.

We don't give undue weight to alternative sorting or ranking systems. For example, the

WP:NPOV
- they contain undue weight relative to the official standings.

Likewise, when Nadal beat Federer at Wimbledon this year, some sports news sites critiqued the

WP:NPOV
by giving undue weight to an unrecognized ranking system.

Feel free to add information about alternative rankings liked medals/capita at the Olympic medal table article. Not reproducing the medals/capita table as a whole, but detailing how some sources have discussed using such a system. --Madchester (talk) 00:16, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Medals per capita map

Hi! Well, we didn't succeed, but it has been interesting to participate showing our point of view. If the table or an independent article are not accepted, I hope that at least a section about this subject will be accepted on the main article, summarizing the main point explained in the references. I have posted to my blog and entry about this subject. Take care. Eynar Oxartum (talk) 09:10, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
