Albinoni

Hi Nicoderno1, what's your source for the Albinoni version of L'impresario delle Isole Canarie? The two standard monographs on Albinoni by Michael Talbot don't mention this work ... If authentic, it should by the way be listed under Intermezzi rather than Operas. -- Schneid9 (talk) 00:19, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Schneid9,
thank you for pointing this out, I forgot to source it and will do so promptly. There are is only one source in fact, and I assume that Talbot simply did not have it at the time when he wrote his monographe. It is a printed Libretto for a 1725 performance in fondazione Cini, and I include it here below. The Groves article about Metastasio lists Albinoni 1725 in the Vertonungen Liste, but does not supply the source.
I wish I could find the music somehow, but almost all of Albinoni's intermezzo music is lost.
Re Albinoni's works list - should I remove all of the intermezzi from the tableof operas and into the Intermezzo list?
Best regards,
Nico

Hi Nico, I've put your answer here so that the discussion isn't spread between two talk pages. First of all, many thanks for this valuable information! I've found that even Remo Giazotto in his 1945 monograph on Albinoni mentions L'impresario delle Canarie (as performed with Alcina delusa da Ruggero, autunno 1725, San Cassiano), but he says that the only source he could find for that was a note in Taddeo Wiel, I teatri musicali veneziani del Settecento (Venice 1897). I must admit that I'm still a bit doubtful about Albinoni's authorship. The catalogue reference you cite seems to indicate that the libretto itself doesn't bear Albinoni's name; instead, reference is made to a certain Sartori (probably Claudio Sartori, I libretti italiani a stampa dalle origini al 1800, Cuneo 1990-94). I don't have access to this work, but Eleanor Selfridge-Field in her more recent New Chronology of Venetian Opera and Related Genres, 1660-1760 (Stanford 2007) says that the music of these intermezzi is only attributed to Albinoni (p. 584, s.v. Dorina e Nibbio). She seems to believe that some of the supposedly different compositions could just be different attributions of the same music. As long as the music is lost, this is probably hard to find out! -- Schneid9 (talk) 16:49, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Schneid9, very interesting info. I fear we will never find out for sure, until we see the source I mentioned. Alas it is not easy to get a copy of these from such institutions as the fondazione Cini. I have a feeling though, that an 'attribution' does not make much sense - in those days either Metastasio would publish his own works, or - a libretto would be published, always as accompanying a specific performance, and almost always mentioning the composer (hence the Copenhagen Libretto of L'impresario also lists Orlandini clearly as composer). Since the music to this performance in 1725 does not exist, there can be no stylistic attribution. Well I have a friend who works in Venice, perhaps she can go and take a look for me.Nicoderno1 (talk) 21:43, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Carlo Negrini may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "[]"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thank you for adding to a great soprano, but what she needs is not more unreferenced information but references. I wish someone could date the image which looks like 1960s to me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:15, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for references, but can you please at least give them a title, better also author, publisher/website and date? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:59, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
