Welland Canal pictures

I am glad you liked the pictures. Unfortunately, I was only making a short visit to the area, so I will not have the opportunity to photograph other abandoned locks any time soon. Maybe some time over the summer. Balcer 16:12, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario

I'm inclined to remove the Chamber of Commerce link (and maybe the Boyscout Jamboree link as well). I realise that

WP:EL, Sites to avoid, "Sites that primarily exist to sell products or services." Any objections?-- Mwanner | Talk 12:26, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply

Good, I have made the changes. (It is, of course, ironic that the page currently features a B&B fest, but WTH). Thanks, -- Mwanner | Talk 14:55, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2 questions and a comment

The comment. The reason for having the stub in that format is to keep them in alphabetical order as "Saint" rather than under "St" or one of the multiple variations that airports use. I realize that this is pretty anal of me. The first question is are the three airports (St. Catharines/Niagara District Airport, Niagara Falls/Niagara South Airport & Welland/Niagara Central Airport) in the same general area? Last question. In the Category:Niagara Region, Ontario you have them listed under A. I was curious as to why and not under the airport name. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 19:24, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it was A for airport and I think it makes sense. No problems with the stub thing as there is no way that what I did was obvious for sorting. Should Welland/Niagara Central Airport & Niagara Falls/Niagara South Airport be in Category:Transportation in Niagara Falls? Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 20:06, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the Nouveau Riche page

Couldn't find another way of contacting you. My internet mail service is unreliable as well. If you want to eliminate the last paragraph, that's okay.

Colloquial speakers of the English language take in phrases from other languages, sometimes altering them and sometimes leaving them alone. Many phrases are taken from French. For a French-speaking person to know what phrases are taken directly is different from knowing how to translate the phrase instead.

For example, in the British television series World At War, specifically the episode "France Falls," a postwar interview with a former French military official has a sentence like, "The Germans bought tanks like they were new rich..." A native English speaker of his social status would have said nouveau riche. I seem to recall another example somewhere as well.

Now Wikipedia has its accessory, Wiktionary. The officials have their own rules and schemes for sorting out what goes where. Personally, I feel the articles in Wiktionary are too short. I'd prefer for there to be descriptions on how words are used or misused, for one thing.

That's all. --Sobolewski 02:04, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A suggested article

Hi Qviri,

Thanks for all the great pictures of the Welland Canal, and your contributions to Niagara articles. I am a resident of Welland, but am presently living abroad, and wont be back until December. I had always meant to do an article about the Comfort Maple, the oldest sugar maple in Canada. It is a spectacular sight and this is a great time of year to photograph it. If you, or someone you know is interested, take regional 20 west until you're just outside Font Hill, take a right on Effingham road and a left on metler road. Watch for the sign that says comfort maple (its on your left). Its easy to drive past, if you hit Regional 24 you went too far.

Have a great summer,

Regards,

That WikiWoo thing

I'd suggest that your connection on

WP:ANI of that IP to the article is a bit of a smoking gun, and you'd be well served to get it into the checkuser request that's open on the topic. For the record, I never intended to outright state that no, your new friend GST2006 was *not* WikiWoo, I just indicated that if it in fact is, that his mental state sure went in a different direction in a big hurry, what with dropping his campaign against the regional municipalties of Ontario and charging into a different arena with a different war cry. Infallibility is not a quality I claim. Tony Fox (arf!) 23:01, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply

To save some time and get things sorted out, I've added that and some justification for things at the checkuser case. Tony Fox (arf!) 05:34, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Be Polite

You have not been polite in dealing with me. You have been down right rude, but I am doing my best to maintain composure. I would appreciate that you follow the basic rules if Wiki Procedures.

You have been attacking me and attempting to instigate me in many different ways. You have failed to assume good faith and have accused me of all sorts of things. You have made numerous personal attacks without any provocation attempting to get me to respond likewise, which I have not. You have been looking for ways to start a confrontation because you can seem to find arguments in your favour in discussion on edits to contributions. You appear to have an agenda to deter editing and participating or enjoy instigating editors hoping to ban them. Do you have a trophy page of people you have taken out? Or do you start a new user name each time so people can't track your activities?

Thank you, Qviri/archive2, for contributing to my in many languages… page! I appreciate it very much, and I will remember you if I have any questions about your language. Thank you again!

Since you left a comment in the "Not Yet" section of the U.S. city naming guideline change proposal, it has been revised to no longer merge U.S. with Canada. Please reconsider your vote here. --Serge 20:11, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Test for Notability

Hi, per your suggestion I've read Articles 7 for speedy deletion, and have introduced what I believe are compelling articles of evidence for why Topix is notable. As for you suggestion that I consult the Wikipedia "general biography criteria", I can only guess that it came from a form letter, as the articles isn't about a person. Any way, I appreciate you allowing a period for response, unlike some other editors ;). --Newtman 10:08, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for alerting me to the Welland Tribune article. It appeared in the Standard on Wednesday and am happy to see that there is now an online version of the article. I will certainly pass it along to the rest of the protest team! Andy Saunders 20:51, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
